what is the profile of a modern Democrat who could win governorships in deep red states the same way "fiscal conservatives" like Rauner and Charlie Baker who run on business acumen and cutting taxes can occasionally win in wave conditions in deep blue states?

This was amazing. This woman is a craven opportunist. I love when she catches herself almost calling Doug Jones by his name instead of "Abortion Jones" or "Roy Moore's opponent."

No it's fucking not awesome, it means there's going to be a GOP Lt. Governor for the next year. I'd rather not have to worry about an 80 year old governor's health being the only thing preventing unified GOP control of the state.

Yup. The Senate president fills the job, according to the state constitution. Her senate seat would then need a special election to fill (GOP has a 34 to 33 seat majority there). Would be a risky mess, and I don't want to see how fast the GOP can ram through WI style voter restrictions if given the chance.

He should just appoint Lori Swanson, and then there can still be an open primary anyway.

Yeah. My wife wants to move anyways, so I may be heading to a more progressive state. Like Florida!

this continues to baffle me, why is WaPo dedicating this much space and reporting to the incident if it's just lawn care or some lib neighbor with anger management issues
