that etsy store has convinced me i need to get into screenprinting and sell niche t-shirts

spent the past hour watching the '85 munich concert. such a tremendously good band. even the deep album stuff is brilliant

hasty top five

1. Bonny
2. Goodbye Lucille #1
3. I Remember That
4. Life of Surprises
5. Lions in My Own Garden

it occurs to me that my barriers to entry on this album initially (as my first Prefab record) were "horsin' around" and "blueberry pies" and that i've come around on them quite a bit. still, though, how do others feel about those songs? are they essential to your listening experience of SM? i'd be curious to hear an impassioned defence of those tracks.

Horsin' Around might be mannered and a little too precious but i've always had a soft spot for it. it's such a plainly stated and sincere take on its subject matter. Ive never much cared for vaudeville/Tin Pan Alley affectations, but the jazzy tempo changes and scatting aren't as trite to me after listening to Protest Songs and Swoon so much, now i've accepted that its demonstrative of how unselfconscious Paddy is.

but I still struggle with side 2 to this day. Blueberry Pies and When the Angels usually get skipped, even though When the Angels is growing on me since ending the album on Desire As is too heavy

edit: I see that the thread basically had the same consensus. cool!

Usually think of Prefab Sprout as a Spring and Fall band but this tune is all Summer baby

i used to play this album in my old coffee shop a lot and during this song one of the baristas who i can only describe as an adult female bart simpson literally put down the drink she was in the middle of making, looked at me, and said with wide eyes, "oh, dude, you actually like this"

If Blueberry Pies didn't have the title phrase in it it'd be great and wouldn't stick out at all. Horsin' Around has that incredible horn thing in 6 with triplets that just feels fucking good. The rest of the song is fine b/c it sets up that part.

When someone gets prefab or blue nile shirt from Singapore, post itt
