I realized that what I want from Star Wars movies is that they feel more like Star Wars books/videogames, and Rogue One/Solo are the best ones for that

Yeah, these movies work a lot better when they are overtly fanfic rather than fanfic masquerading as a continuation of the core story. The plot of Solo was whatever and Alden Ehrenreich sucked IMO, but the tone was right and I enjoyed it. A lot of it reminded me of various Jedi Knight and Shadows of the Empire levels. It also didn't suffer from feeling like an EU story that had prequel bullshit spliced in at the last minute by the suits like Rogue One did. Darth Maul was dumb, but that felt like a throwaway moment rather than the dreadful Tarkin stuff in Rogue One.

The movie was really dark and murky to me, to the point of distraction. Even the train scene, even though it took place on a snowy world, was mainly the colour of dirty grey snow. I'm thankful that I didn't see this in a 3D theatre, it must have been impossible to see anything.

Yeah solo was pure fun campy EU bullshit from the Ann Crispin/Michael Stackpole lineage. I still don't know what rogue one was but it was...not good. The only thing people seemed to like in it was pretty much a deleted cutscene from the Force Unleashed 2

I've said it once and I'll say it again: Rogue One is the best Star Wars movie.

I did enjoy that, and the singing alien, and other parts, but the nostalgia callbacks were waaay more egregious than I thought. I was prepared for a cheesy Han Solo explanation, but I wasn't quite prepared for "Oh Chewbacca? We need to give you a SHORT NICKNAME like" etcetera. Extremely lazy writing and plenty of it.

I did also nod off for a while but blame that mostly on eating a lot of sugar before stretching out on my couch.

Yeah, I want scum and villainy and low level hijinx, but there were too many disturbances on the way for me to enjoy that much in SOLO.

Dug Rogue One.

Easy to What If?, but I do wonder about Lord & Miller's version. Was it less callbacky? More callbacky?

The incessant cutesy callbacks were indeed bad, but this movie was very obviously conceived as a vehicle for them. The ceiling for this was ~6/10 because of that.

There definitely have been times where I do wonder if I really like Star Wars the films or if I like the video games like Jedi academy, knights of the old republic and battlefront. I like both of course, but I think the kotor games are probably what i actually cherish the most as far as the Star Wars universe goes
