yeah there's a really strong snowfall transition at one point, can;t remember when, maybe when they kiss after they get the dress? it is a little weird, but i like it.

This movie made me smile, a lot, both times I saw it, but there was a couple in front of me the second time I saw who were bursting their seams at every little thing Woodcock did or said and it was really distracting. I can't imagine PTA was going for screwball comedy, even though clearly he has been informed by them. Also, that snowfall transition was gorgeous. On the nose?

It happening exactly once all film made me think he was referencing something specific. or that it had to have been more important than it seemed. i doubt he was trying to mimic I Met Him In Paris (1937) for example, but that Alps shot of Woodcock followed by such a stylized, whimsical old hollywood dissolve smacked of it.

just 5 of us in the small theater and there was a woman whose phone started ringing for a solid minute during the wedding scene and she also made a bunch of noise during other scenes but i decided not to be fussy about it, Alma would hate that

loved this and want PTA and DDL to make a few more films together before retiring

i mean it was beautiful and sometimes thats all that matters but also it was included, not just cause its sick as fuck, but to fortify the idea that woodcock is a homebody and alma was more adventurous

Yeah, that scene and the New Year's Eve ball are Reynolds and Alma trying to strike some kind of balance in their new married life - find the right of amount of space versus being together. And then Reynolds figuring out for himself, like when she leaves on New Year's, that he actually is more attached to her than he realizes, that even if he doesn't always want to go out, being with her is enough to justify it - at least when it would mean a lot to her if he did.

Maybe I'm the only one who got this the first time through, but when he was watching her set out towards the mountains, I briefly wondered if there would be an avalanche (or just anything that kept her from returning). It had kind of an ominous quality to it. But then we have the great snow dissolve into that staircase shot and the movie keeps going, thankfully.
What became of her? She lived, as she liked to say, off the kindness of gentlemen. I assume she’s dead.
