Probably my favorite studio album. The transition between Slipknot! and Franklin's Tower is my favorite 5-10 seconds in music.

Yeah, I wouldn't pay that to see them... that actually depresses me because I'd like to see Phil and Bobby again someday. I'm seriously considering going to see 7 Walkers at the end of the month though. $20 for Papa Mali and Kreutzmann not to mention the addition of Matt Hubbard makes this so worth it.

EDIT: I just checked my ticket stub from 7/9/95 and it was $33.50. 16 years inflation along with the fact that your seeing Bobby and Phil in a theater as opposed to a football stadium might not make $60-70 that bad of a deal. I just can't afford to spend that much on a concert.

links fixed, though i'm not sure a 30 minute Dark Star is where someone should start exploring this band.

jesus, 1:30 for three songs. Some praise this show FOR the three 30 minutes songs in a row, but for me it's a bit of a chore. The rest is shit hot.

I've loved the grateful dead for a long while, since I picked up live in europe '72 used for $5 at a record store at 14, but I've only stuck with studio albums all this time due to my general distaste for bootlegs overall. Hell, the banjo parts on Workingman's Dead, particularly on Cumberland Blues, are what made me want to pick up the banjo.

Tonight I've decided to change that, and am just gonna dl a few shows mentioned in this thread and try it out. I'm fully aware there's a good change I'm gonna spiral into an obsession with these that'll take up a good chunk of my time but I'm pretty okay with it.

I've been strictly albums-only in my listening as well (American Beauty, Workingman's Dead). Gonna check out Dick's Picks Vol. 4, thanks for the upload

Weirdly I think what really got me into them was playing a bunch of their stuff on drums in Rock Band. The subtle complexity of their rhythm section really jumps out in that context.
What became of her? She lived, as she liked to say, off the kindness of gentlemen. I assume she’s dead.

Really like the kick drum work in this song, it's the kind of thing I only really picked up on when I had to play it myself:

If you want to try Live albums just download Live/Dead it's a comp of best songs live sorta

Also the shows on 05/08 and 5/9/77 are meant to be their best shows and they are pretty great.
