Yeah, I wouldn't pay that to see them... that actually depresses me because I'd like to see Phil and Bobby again someday. I'm seriously considering going to see 7 Walkers at the end of the month though. $20 for Papa Mali and Kreutzmann not to mention the addition of Matt Hubbard makes this so worth it.
EDIT: I just checked my ticket stub from 7/9/95 and it was $33.50. 16 years inflation along with the fact that your seeing Bobby and Phil in a theater as opposed to a football stadium might not make $60-70 that bad of a deal. I just can't afford to spend that much on a concert.
I've loved the grateful dead for a long while, since I picked up live in europe '72 used for $5 at a record store at 14, but I've only stuck with studio albums all this time due to my general distaste for bootlegs overall. Hell, the banjo parts on Workingman's Dead, particularly on Cumberland Blues, are what made me want to pick up the banjo.
Tonight I've decided to change that, and am just gonna dl a few shows mentioned in this thread and try it out. I'm fully aware there's a good change I'm gonna spiral into an obsession with these that'll take up a good chunk of my time but I'm pretty okay with it.
I've been strictly albums-only in my listening as well (American Beauty, Workingman's Dead). Gonna check out Dick's Picks Vol. 4, thanks for the upload
Weirdly I think what really got me into them was playing a bunch of their stuff on drums in Rock Band. The subtle complexity of their rhythm section really jumps out in that context.
What became of her? She lived, as she liked to say, off the kindness of gentlemen. I assume she’s dead.
