yeah so basically all trump is doing is costing the government shitload of money since subsidized policies stay subsidized no matter how high they go and he's basically fucking over any middle to upper middle class person on obamacare who doesn't qualify

i'm sure that'll go over great

It will go over without consequence because our inept rules-fetishist media will obfuscate the motive and means by which this administration actively seeks to harm as many people as possible out of spite and resentment.

From the NYT story:

Mr. Trump had raised the possibility of eliminating the subsidy with Republican senators at a White House meeting several months ago. At the time, one senator told him that the Republican Party would effectively “own health care” as a political issue if the president did so.

By late Thursday night, a backlash against Mr. Trump — including from fellow Republicans — appeared imminent as lawmakers voiced concern over how ending the subsidies would affect their constituents.

“Cutting health care subsidies will mean more uninsured in my district,” Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Republican of Florida, wrote on Twitter. She added that Mr. Trump “promised more access, affordable coverage. This does opposite.”

She's retiring so... Gonna need a little bit more than that to prove that a backlash is truly imminent.

oh apparently ending csr's will really fuck up things in new york and minnesotta even if they adopt california's approach

As happens so often in health policy, New York has more to lose than almost any other state.

In the rest of the country, it’s insurance companies that stand to forfeit money if Trump follows through on his threat. In New York, state government would take most of the hit.

The end of the cost-sharing subsidies would open an almost $1 billion hole in the budget of the state-operated Essential Plan, an optional benefit under Obamacare that was exercised only by New York and Minnesota.

The Cuomo administration would face a choice between backfilling the lost federal funds with state dollars or shutting down a fast-growing health plan that covers 665,000 low-income New Yorkers.

In another wrinkle, New York–because of its unusual structure–also stands to be denied a counterbalancing increase in federal premium tax credits that would soften the blow for low-income consumers in other states.

If democrats had any spine this is the prime time to argue for the 25th amendment and any congressperson that doesn’t get on board is complicit in what could decimate the economy

Yeah I've known a few people who work in healthcare fretting about this for a few months (ever since Trump raised the possibility) but trying to calm themselves down by saying there's no way the administration would be vindictive and suicidal enough to do this. This fucking sucks on so many levels.

my best friend has bipolar and borderline personality disorder and is a freelancer relying on the individual market for insurance to get her medicine, therapist, specialists, etc.

she follows politics at more or less the same level as the average boarder itt. the congressional repeal efforts really wore on her psychologically, and she has been terrified of something like this coming down via executive order for months. i'm so scared and sad and angry for her and for everyone in a similar situation. fuck.

so apparently there were 14 states that allowed insurers to set their premiums at a level that assumed csr payments would remain in place, and insurers in those states (may?) have contracts that allow them to withdraw from the market now that trump ended them. so while premiums might be locked in, participation may not be in a lot of places.

Trump reminds me of myself in undergrad playing a Chinese card game with dorm mates where I didn't understand the rules, so I would just play some card and everyone would freak out and get pissy with me because I did something unpredictable that just created chaos. But I had to pretend like it was part of my master plan and be like "what I did was entirely within the rules, deal with it"
Note: mildly comedic.
