if it gets legislated as is it will remain broken as i don;t think there's enough they can cut into welfare/medicaid (which will be harder to drum up opposition toward) and not start to cut into medicare (which will have the full force of the aarp and general public consensus against it)

i keep trying to game out what it would like like if dems recaptured the house and senate 2018/2020 while trump is still elected.

the obvious playbook is obstruction to run out the clock but like what could they do with the poison pills of tax reform w/ no remedies to the revenue shortfall?

after 2006, what major legislation was w. able to pass?

how about obama post 2010?

The president isn't the only wealthy person who nonetheless opts for fast food. Investing legend and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Warren Buffett says in the HBO documentary "Becoming Warren Buffett" that he eats breakfast at McDonald's daily. But he never spends more than $3.17.

"I tell my wife, as I shave in the morning … either $2.61, $2.95 or $3.17," he says. "And she puts that amount in the cup by me here [in the car]. When I'm not feeling quite so prosperous, I might go with the $2.61, which is two sausage patties. I put them together and pour myself a Coke."

a lot of major legislation occurred in 2008 related to the economic collapse, but that's kind of a special case

probably the most significant thing for Obama era Republican controlled House is the Budget Control Act. BCA caps are major point of negotiation on funding the govt next year.

I don't know what the outcomes are if the Democrats controlled both chambers somehow in 2019. you'd expect just a stalemate of status quo govt funding but Trump is a terrible negotiator so who knows.

It will be interesting to see if we do indeed flip house and senate in 2018 (which is not likely) if trump will be obstructionist, seems like he doesn't mind flip-flopping on issues if he's seen as being a deal maker and if republicans are in the minority I don't see him having any issue tossing the total losers aside.

Hopefully the major drama of a Dem House would be impeaching Trump, even without the votes in the Senate to remove him.

yeah, I meant more in terms of legislation and whether he'd veto everything or sign them to show his great dealmaking prowess

My brother and sister-in-law home-schooled their kid with, I believe, ACE textbooks. By the time he would have been in tenth grade my sister-in-law was out of her depth and they sent him to a charter school named after a famous actor and NRA-spokeman. I remember when Obama was elected (he would have been 7 or 8), he was marching around declaring Obama should be in jail, and my shithead brother was so proud of him. I hate my family.
