Trump hauling out his aggrieved families again reminded me of him doing it at the 2016 RNC (I believe it was night 2 "immigrant night") and then i realized that we're gonna have to deal with trumps 2020 convention and i got real upset.

the convention was the bleakest shit of the entire election season. i was able to get through it by telling myself there was no way trump would win. not sure if i can do rnc2020

For some reason the thing I remember most about the RNC is those two Benghazi dudes relating their story in montones with dead eyes

Everything about that RNC is bonkers, and is especially bizarre now that we're 2 years out. Like, that's where roger stone showed alex jones his ronald reagan tattoo, and hugh hewitt is writing epic fan fiction and ted cruz tells the electorate to vote their conscience and gets booed mercilessly and there's behind the scenes rumours of kasich-cruz unity ticket to take down donald. I'm sure there's hundreds of things i'm missing, may need to revisit the thread.

It wasn't all bad though, it did give us this

i know it's cliche to cite Orwell/1984 with anything that smacks of dystopia and authoritarianism, but his "the object of power is power" passage is pretty spot on and, to me, answers that question satisfactorily.

on this question, Chris Hayes did a brief tweetstorm earlier (collected here: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1010 ... 15714.html) and i wonder what you guys think.

sometimes i have fantasies in which i punch trump's face repeatedly until its a mush of flesh. It's like the only way my brain can process this shit sometimes.

Somebody need to cgi that brutal beat down scene from Irreversible but with trump's face instead. I'd probably watch that on repeat. I'd say Jared Leto in fight club too but i like watching Jared leto get beat down to a pulp too much for that.

82% of the House GOP voted for the Goodlatte bill to reduce legal immigration, criminalize undocumented presence, end humanitarian protections, block asylum claims, restrict VISAs. and about another 3-4% voted against THAT from the right cause it gave some small protections to DACA recipients.

https://immigrationforum.org/article/bill-analysis-securing-americas-future-act/

immigration moderates are a tiny rump of the GOP
