yeah

it's not like there's a ton of socialist/dsa members in alabama who would be swayed by a random medium article. i don't think it's gonna make a huge difference compared to all the other forces working against jones

I think Jones is a pretty solid get also considering he was originally going into a contest he was certainly going to lose by 10-15+ points, even with pre-abuse Moore and thus is not too many rings above the standard deep red state Dem position seat filler and he’s still a pretty enthusiastic supporter of the Dem platform. Not too many hedges on policy but really just heavy on the “I want to work together across the aisle” and “I want to fix Washington” tropes

I also agree that “it’s [state]” is bullshit but Alabama might be the one exception to the rule

Man the pitchforks are out for Richard Shelby on my Facebook page. Almost tempted to defend him. These people have no clue that if you're a Republican having a Senator on your side that's held his seat for 30+ years is a very good thing.

Also making age jokes...he's about 18 months older than trump.

Louisiana and Kansas too. This Moore thing would definitely happen in either of those states, several others too.

There are some leftists I know whom I believe are cynically interested in things getting worse because incremental change slows the revolution but far right rule will lead to a violent overthrow of the current system. It goes without saying that there is a palpable lack of empathy for the people they purportedly care about helping. But whatever, this might end in a blood bath anyway so onward Marxist soldier

If we can’t all agree that Doug Jones getting elected in Alabama would be a good and positive moment for this country then I’m seriously going to give up

there was a similar dsa statement before the virginia election that withdrew support for northam that ended up not making much of a difference

i absolutely hope dougie jones wins and would be thrilled if he did but it's also ok to be critical of his flaws

'Here's a list of reasons the candidate is bad' without context isn't really an honest critique of anything.

As far as I can gather, the most left-leaning candidate in the Dem primaries in Alabama did substantially worse than a guy who got votes just by virtue of having the last name Kennedy.

These leftists are deeply delusional if they think far right rule would lead the people to violently overthrow our government.

And its only going to be a "bloodbath" in the sense of poor people dying because of a lack of social services.

Yes that medium article is so misguided. The state Democratic Party (maybe the weakest and worst run major state party organization in the whole country) was begging people to run for this seat. Before Jones stepped in, they were recruiting an associate professor at my school whose only qualifications were going to Harvard and working on John Kerry's campaign.

Jones is the only type of Democratic candidate that could stand a chance of winning a statewide election in Alabama - something no democrat has done in 10 years. DSA people need to get more comfortable with the idea of getting your foot in the door in a state like Alabama. Jones has spoken in progressive terms about healthcare, education, and workers' rights. Do they *want* him to get 20% of the vote?

the Right's interest in expanding gun ownership to every citizen almost as a mandate, is a great way to prevent a revolution

It’s strange watching my family make sense of this kind of babbling. Fox News could really just do free associations and they’d dig it.
