I find it harder and harder to keep going about the daily duties and thinking about medium and long term plans while the family separation goes on unchecked and how it is only the beginning

If you're looking for an immediate step to take and have some money to spare:

Here's a good nonprofit organization to check out/donate to if you want to specifically help the "caravan" asylum-seekers: www.alotrolado.org

And the ACLU is currently fighting both family separation for asylum seekers https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/07/politics/family-separation-ruling/index.html and (along with a few other groups) the inclusion of a citizenship question on the 2020 census http://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/390988-aclu-joins-immigrant-groups-in-lawsuit-challenging-citizenship, in case you've been thinking of joining, renewing, or just making an extra donation.

They had to make that part smallest because otherwise they'd invade Nothern California for water access.

In 2014, when he tried to get this on the ballot, tens of thousands of the signatures they submitted were bunk. Hope they double checked this time.

shit like that is meaningless whether it passes or not. it's never going past the state level unless it benefits republicans. and it won't.

Is this Cali thing a real thing that might happen? America is so dire, isn't there some fucking law against gerrymandering.

I want to say that I like that this thread exists and people are still paying attention because I'm getting so fatalistic and wanting not to see it which is what they hope for

Yeah he basically taught me to read (and gave me a ton of falsely lucid memories of peripheral 80s cultural trends and events) through his remaindered books.

I never read his columns but I loved watching Dave's World starring Harry Anderson (RIP) because it was the rare sitcom set in Miami. Also Big Trouble, based on his novel, is really underrated.

anyway yeah everything is shit.

I didn't realize they made a movie of Big Trouble, but I liked the book.

He wrote another novel called Insane City which was also pretty fun.

Turns out the movie Big Trouble's 9-11 was 9-11 and people didn't much feel like seeing comedies that involve smuggling nuclear weapons on airplanes in that time period.

Not even the massive, pulsating charisma of early 2000s Tim Allen could offset America's shookness.

Me either. People assume all Californians are granola eating bong tokers but the reality is that SoCal the state is all rural farmers/conservative desert rats, NorCal has a good chance to go blue but again tons of rural (pot) farmers that can run conservative on a lot of issues and libertarian techbros. Pretty much the only lock for Dems would be California and that’s only cuz there’s so many of my Mexican peoples down there.
