I'm fine with states getting revenue from online sales tax.

They were doing it based on physical presence. So if I buy something off Amazon, I still don't get taxed if it's being shipped by a third party or from a DC in, say, Colorado. Only if it's coming from a DC in California/directly from Amazon.

The South Dakota law taxed any internet purchases coming into the state over a $100,000/200 purchases per year threshold from a given seller, full stop, no physical presence required. SCOTUS said it was fine and their prior precedent (which created the whole "physical presence" requirement) was bad and dumb given the role of the internet in commerce now.

A little confused by the voting breakdown on this one.

Yeah Ginsburg joined the conservatives, but Roberts joined the liberals.

i know the dem party as a whole is pretty bad but it's mind-numbingly frustrating how shitty the leadership in particular is. like the party actually *could* be competently and passionately represented in each chamber, but nope, fucking schumer, pelosi, hoyer and durbin.

Pelosi at least seems to be (or was like 10 years ago the last time the party did anything) a pretty good behind-the-scenes political operator.

I have no idea what value the rest of these old bloodless fucks provide.

they seem to be too power-hungry and non-self aware to realize it would do the party an enormous benefit to do a total leadership reboot

Pelosi is a good leader, poor orator. Schumer has a mixed record as a leader, is an even worse orator than Pelosi, and has some extremely troubling political positions. I honestly don't know what Hoyer does at all.

Durbin also seems totally pointless. it seems like Schumer does all the whipping himself.

Yeah if I had to keep one it would be Pelosi but that's a depressing proposition. Schumer is the absolute worst, Hoyer not far behind.

who would be the best options in each chamber that could realistically win? i'm not convinced anyone would successfully challenge pelosi and schumer unless they stepped aside
