Gillian Anderson says she's left, too.
This should probably just be written off at this point.

yeah I fucking loved every minute of the first season but it's clear that any second season at this point would be a massive disappointment
what a fucking bummer
why didn't they just give them the budget they wanted
every fucking network is trying to get into the "big tv" game but they're all too fucking timid to follow through
like oh you didn't get enough viewers?
maybe if you embraced cord cutters and sold your own ad slots for your own streaming
but no you continue to suck cable's cock so we get a "choose your provider" screen and then we make an immediate heel turn to torrent town
fuckers

does the first season even come close to telling a complete story?
was planning on watching this but with both fuller and anderson out i dunno if it's worth the time to sink into this show going absolutely nowhere

absolutely worth watching
tv gold
if you know the book it's a brilliant companion piece
if you don't know the book you can just watch S1 and then read it
but definitely better to have read the book and then watch the show

This had its moments but I can’t recommend it. Maybe if you’re a big fan of the book but I guess you’d have watched by now. Bad show.
wimbledon, strawberries, bubbles, please protect me. happy midsumma, hope you spend it in your heart, everyone is there. bitch.

Shadow's a lousy character played by a lousy actor. Making Laura the de facto lead halfway through was the smartest decision they made.
I started the book after watching the first episode and feel like you need at least some exposure to the text in order to really care about what's happening on screen. Season 1 never really got around to providing any sort of "so what" moment for general audiences.

the things best about this show are not things in the book.

the book is rad, the show is pretty good.
as mentioned, shadow kind of sucks. he is a stand in for the audience in the book and on the show he is basically a grim silent protagonist that it is impossible to like, but ian mcshane rips and the visuals are cool.
as for plot, shadow pretty much moves from believing in nothing to believing in everything, and the ending is spectacular. on the other hand, you won't care about shadow.

shadow is a weak point in the novel as well. his biggest character traits are an affection for singing 'don't let me be misunderstood' in karaoke and being told he's large. nonetheless it's an enjoyable book and an enjoyable show.

i think in the novel it's easier to just kind of use him as an avatar though. think "link" from Zelda.

This was a really good audiobook if you want a TV show surrogate.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/american-gods-hires-new-showrunner-season-2-1080813Fuller and Green had already written the first six episodes of season two, with sources noting Fremantle planned to toss those scripts and start from scratch with Alexander. In addition to budget concerns, sources note Gaiman was also unhappy with the direction Fuller and Green planned to take season two as their vision was not a straight adaptation of his source material. Gaiman is said to have wanted a showrunner to come in and produce a straight take on his novel (which would include ignoring the cliffhanger from season one).
Insiders note that Fuller and Green had a contentious relationship with Fremantle on season one of American Gods, with the freshman run coming in at an estimated $30 million over budget. Originally ordered for 10 episodes, the show underwent multiple rewrites, with Fuller scrapping a couple of episodes and reworking others for what wound up as an eight-episode season. Fremantle set a $9 million-an-episode budget on season two, sources say, with Fuller and Green asking for more to produce 10 episodes of high-concept drama.
