Also enjoyed it, but agree on the music. Spent the first 20 mins worrying that it would continue like that for the whole series before they started to break it up a bit with some different stuff.

oh yeah i thought it was the dude from Suicide Squad whos super power was producing beverages to sip on during the heat of battle.

im not sure why i had such a negative reaction to this but it just seemed like a mess. like an amalgamation go-bots version of twin peaks/true blood/stranger things/carnivale

ill give it a few weeks but first episode meh

Agree with this

I feel like people who haven't read the book aren't going to like at all though

I mean at times I had no idea what's going on, but I'm fine with that. I expected that from Fuller.

Wasn't too crazy about the visuals as well – expected way more after all the glowing reviews. How did the book readers feel about them?

The felt kinda sandman-ish to me, so I think they're right for the story. The violence was a bit surprising since the book is not graphically violent at all

Assuming they're faithful to the story, there will probably be some crazy cool stuff next episode

That's not a spoiler, relax

very cool!

yeah music was fine/over the top. it's in line with the book and kind of integral to the "America" myth. love love that they've remained so faithful dialogue-wise to the book.

just imagine the show as a comic book and it starts feeling less campy.

Yeah I didn't love this. I'm hoping I'll like it more once things really get going. Even though it does feel pretty faithful to the book, I'm not crazy about the visuals. The music was really overbearing. It felt like a music video a lot. It felt a lot campier than I wanted. Like, the Bilquis scene, I'm not sure what could have been done differently, and obv that is how it goes down in the book, but it felt pretty corny seeing Freddy Rumsen getting swallowed by a giant vagina.

My wife watched it too and she hasn't read the book. She had no idea what was going on and said "eh, it was ok," after we were done. Fingers crossed it picks up for me (and her).

McShane and Schreiber were both great.

edit: I (somehow) haven't read the book.

not sure how i felt about this based on just one episode. i have no idea whats going on or really what this show is even about but ill stick with it for awhile. i got a true blood meets kill bill vibe; the last scene reminded me of a less good version of

wimbledon, strawberries, bubbles, please protect me. happy midsumma, hope you spend it in your heart, everyone is there. bitch.

This show looks like Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch. The dialogue comes off like bro intellectual bullshit. I signed up for a free trial of Starz for this?
