Oh my god yeah. I haven't read it either. After watching Page One I started reading the NYT differently. I was considering canceling my Sunday sub but I don't think I can anymore.

Netflix is making up for all the lost Starz content by giving us CNBC content.

not sure if this has been mentioned yet. but if you're even partially fond of crime shows and espionage that eerily reflects a true conspiracy within the canadian/united states governments, then you need to check this out. definitely not your typical meet criminal - see cop unearth mystery - end with bad guys behind bars all in under 45 mins bs.

people bitching about netflix sucking, seriously watch WEEKEND. stayed in and saw it again with my gf, definitely the best movie I saw last year.

also, they just added a buncha new criterion stuff i've wanted to see forever, but the only one i can think of of the top of my head right now is the man who fell to earth. can't believe that's finally on streaming.

edit: i guess i just don't really get people bitching about netflix...my instant queue has like 400+ awesome foreign/classic films I'll probably never have time to watch and I'm always adding new indie documentaries and features. watching through all of peep show, certified copy, weekend, and a few random documentaries is definitely worth $8 a month. what are you guys looking for? trying to find something to watch on hulu plus/amazon prime definitely made me appreciate netflix even more. I honestly don't understand how hulu plus is in business. it is so incredibly shitty.

we're all just kinda spoiled since like a year ago at this time Instant had a seriously solid selection of all sorts of movies, with tons of great stuff being added monthly, and nowadays their Facebook feed is excitedly advertising that Vertical Limit has just been added.

It's still great for TV shows though, so they're continuing to get my $8/month for the time being

instant fucking sucks, no question

theyve had the same foreign/arthouse movies available for 1.5+ years and have essentially stopped adding new, worthwhile content

if you want to watch "the making of south park seasons 1-5" though youre all set

If you liked that Party Monster documentary, Limelight is pretty good for furthering that story, I just love seeing old rave/club footage I think.

they've also removed a lot of content that was discussed earlier in the thread, so it's becoming imbalanced with trying to maintain the quality of what they put up to what they take down

it's not bad if you've never had netflix instant before or haven't seen lots of movies, but after having it for as long as most of us have you really notice the decline for the last few months or longer

yeah, that's exactly right

if you're trying to fill in blanks in your knowledge of film it's not a bad option (though really you should just go to the library or something), but more to the point, 1.5 years ago they added new, good content on a weekly basis - literally

i had instantwatcher on my rss and can attest that theyd add at least 5-6 things worth queuing every couple days from all different genres/time periods

look at instantwatcher now and youll see the same two or three (quasi)-legit films on the most queued/new and notable list for months on end surrounded by a bunch of bollywood, shitty docs, faux b-movie fare and myriad other unwatchable garbage

just cant justify paying for that shit

Yeah Netflix instant was ok a year or two ago when they just had artsy films and documentaries so I could justify it by saying "oh they'll get better stuff soon, they're just building their library" but now it's readily apparent I'll never be able to watch blockbusters or classic movies the way I want to, so there's no use in bothering with it anymore. I canceled my subscription last month after only using it once in the prior 3 months. I'm just buying DVD's off amazon, watching them once, then re-selling them for what I paid. Companies need to figure out what they're doing with this streaming shit before I'm on-board permanently.

if you can't get $8 worth off instant every month you can go fuck yourself. i wish it still had all the criterions, too, but i can't justify paying for hulu prime just for that and stuff i can go to tv-links for.

is it worth it to own both hulu plus and netflix streaming?

i watched a hulu plus ad a few nights ago and they were announcing all this new Starz content - basically the same shit netflix had before the end of february.

im worried streaming services are going to suck ass in a year or two if these studios won't give in and share their content.

my cancelation was more one of principles - just couldnt see supporting such utter stagnation

mostly i just was sick of getting pissed off when checking for new content and being confronted with shit like CNBC Originals: Coca-Cola: The Real Story Behind the Real Thing and The Best of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog*

*actual titles from the current "best of instant" on instantwatcher - which has also features 13 assassins for a record 15 months!

you have a downloader's impatience. finish what you have, and then be dissatisfied.

perhaps, but mostly i just dont like to pay for shit that sucks

ill bow out now though since im not recommending any titles which is the point of the thread, ostensibly

dont hate me though if i pop itt periodically for a chuckle at whatever episode of modern marvels or keith carradine movie someone is saying is amazing
