this album is a mess but i do like it already

it feels like it's overcompensating for the samey-ness of 6 feet but not necessarily in a bad way

Favourite thing the board has put me onto in ages. I listened to A New Place To Drown like 20 times this week.

i'm gonna be burning this one for awhile. the blown out sub-woofer/punk rap/post-punk jazz whatever headiness of it all is very enjoyable for me. so many genre lines crossing. not to mention the lyrics which are excellent and striking once you get past some of the vocals

This vibe is absolutely what I need in general but I have to second guess myself and wonder if I found the delivery more transparent if this night jazz poet thing would just read as annoying as Tom Waits does.

jeremy beat me to it

after a few more spins i'm really into it but i definitely had a bad reflex the first go-through as some of the vocals seemed to tipped into tom waits like over-caricature.

it grew a lot tho. it's just a reminder to never play it for people in a social setting.

midnight 1 (deep sea diver) is so strange, i didn't even really pay attention to this one at first but i like the how it keeps phasing in-and-out every twenty seconds like a bad dream. it's pretty interesting. and whaddyaknow i almost like every track on this thing. some of the best shit in awhile.

it's an idiosyncratic mess but also held together pretty well.

continually i'm amazed by some of the production stuff. it's just very interesting and off the cuff.... maybe a bit too much reverb/heavy delay but it has a special quality to it.
