I like Kidding a lot.

I hate that the whole season doesn't come out on one day.

Yeah, I watched the pilot the other night. Pretty good. Wish there was a little more Gondry in the direction.

I really enjoyed the pilot, and I think we’ll get a good fill of Gondry as the season goes on. I liked that it was a bit subdued and think it worked well with the episode/introduction to the show.

Although a lot of the dialogue gave me Charlie Kaufman feels and made me upset Franc or Francis never happened.

this was good. ending of the episode sold me on it.

wish that frank langella wasn't actually his dad - thought it would be more interesting for him to just be a paternal dick boss. but I guess they have to explain how he can hold so much power over a huge celebrityToggle Spoiler

also did it look to anyone else like Catherine Keener's daughter had bruises on her neck?

People have been questioning whether “Kidding” is a comedy or a drama. Frankly, I didn’t laugh once, nor did I feel genuine emotion or dramatic tension. So therefore (based on the first episode), it’s neither.

And it all comes down to the writing (from show creator Dave Holstein of “Weeds” and “The Brink”), which is flat and slightly dated. As is common on many network and cable shows, the kids (in this case Jeff’s son and Deidre’s daughter) are one of the weakest elements. There’s only a single, mild surprise, and it comes very late.

In an overstuffed half hour of content, Carrey isn’t able go quite as deep with the character as I hoped (maybe he will over the course of the 10-episode first season). The consistently abrupt editing right out of the gate (with a scene featuring Jeff and Danny Trejo on “Conan”) doesn’t help.

As much as I was really intrigued by “Kidding”, I don’t think there’s enough here for me to give it a second chance. However, I will make a prediction: Carrey, who’s won two Golden Globe Awards and has been nominated four other times (though not since “Sunshine” in 2005), will either be nominated for or win a Globe in January. “Kidding” is the kind of eccentric, oddball show that will probably speak well to the eccentric, oddball Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Oh, and it will be in the Comedy category.

On the LCJ Report Card Kidding gets a D+

ride.

Really liked the pilot.

Let out a pretty hard audible guffaw when Jim Carrey said "she tattooed Phil's name on her left breast" and Frank Langella deadpanned "every woman deserves to feel sexy."

It's good but I meant to make a post about how it's not sure what tone it wants to pursue. Like episode 5 was an exploration of grief the next is not.

The show is growing on me, even though the whole premise behind the show leaves me a little cold. The world doesn’t feel real.

And Frank Langella’s character bugs me. It’s like the same character he pkayed in The Americans, where he was equally annoying.

I will watch anything with Carrey, except The Number 23.

this week's ep is maybe the first that realizes the show's potential.
