When Petty And The Heartbreakers were first breaking out, they were lumped in with New Wave. But when asked to comment on his putative peers, Petty said, “Some of those guys are all right. Costello’s good, but I wouldn’t call him Elvis.”

Lol. He had to have been keeping that in his back pocket.

Woke up really early this morning, the house was quiet and I realized I could actually hear the cars roll by out on 441.

Also recalled a really distinct childhood memory of raking leaves with my dad and listening to the radio. "Refugee" came on and I moshed into the pile of leaves, scattering them everywhere.

Tom Petty's near/death is the only time I can recall a newspaper guy on the street exhorting me to READ ALL ABOUT IT.

listened to close to 4 hours of Tom Petty today, never got boring or repetitive.

thought it was pretty cool how weidman would use petty for his entrance music while a lot of the other fighters were trying to come off as hard coming out to metal or rap

make it mild

Doing the same thing I did with Bowie: go back through the whole discography, see if there's anything I missed before.

the fact that the video also has one of the first depictions of skateboarding in the mainstream music video pantheon is also close to my heart

I've got a catalog playlist I go back to for hours of nonstop Petty. One of a few allowed to play in the house without breaks because of the love by all.
