My office upgraded to Windows 10 earlier this year and it's been totally fine.

All of the stuff that I don't like about Windows 10 is related to trying to maintain a personal always-on desktop and sporadically used laptop. Lack of update control, MS advertising, unreliable Windows Store, bad power management, etc. don't matter on a work computer.

Going all in on Cortana was a weird choice too

The tendency to auto reboot and do a 2 hour update is a comically idiotic problem in 2017

it's bad enough on a desktop, but before I went deep into some arcane registry editing it would fucking wake my laptop up and do the update when it's not connected to power and drain the batteries

If you have Pro it's easier to control the updates, at least. But then again I feel like I've "fixed" it multiple times and I still come home to find it rebooted.

Got a bunch of Windows 10 laptops for work and they're mostly great, I don't have 95% of the problems y'all are experiencing

Though an update on one of them broke the BIOS or something two weeks ago and I haven't had the office time to try to fix it. So that's some powerful bullshit

Pro-tip: use Windows+X to pull up a shortcut menu on the desktop that accesses most of the functions you're probably looking for

A friend of mine was on Windows 10 and basically went through an epic week-long journey trying to get his computer back on Windows 7. He had an incredibly difficult time making it happen, but succeeded in the end. My desktop at work runs 7 and it's still great. I had a Lenovo laptop that ran 10 and I hated it. Part of that may have just been the hardware but the UI is just better on 7 imo.

not necessarily a windows 10 problem, but I had a PC custom built for my dad and picked it up today. The one thing he really wanted was Outlook so I added Microsoft Office Home & Student to his order for $150. I went to set it up today and turns out it doesn't come with Outlook. I bought that on my own dime for an additional $140. What a fucking ripoff for an email program Gmail could easily beat. I installed it before he got home, I'm not even going to tell him I bought it. He was steamed enough to have to buy Office. That used to be something that just came with a Windows build.

I never got to visit DisneyQuest but it seems like it was the closest a real life location ever came to the idealized digital live/work space graphic interfaces of the mid-90’s

Great twitter thread about it here
