It's mind-numbing how someone who's so obsessed with the perils of group identity and division refuses to criticize Trump in any capacity (if asked about Trump, JP will just say to treat those on the right - aka, his donors - with respect and that Trump was a definitively better option that Hillary), all while JP harps on about the evils of 18-year-olds chanting on a campus. No acknowledgement at all that the president tweets a blank book and says "these are all the good liberal ideas," yet a president saying half the country - and those outside Trump's hard right-wing identity - lacks intelligence doesn't warrant a mention from JP in his many discussions about the danger of divisive identity politics (of which Trump has many more examples than just the blank book tweet, as JP and we all know).

Any dishonest "intellectual" driven on a donation-based system has the incentive to frame everything favorably for their donors, especially when their donors are the sort that will rebel upon any criticism of their orange deity. So anti-intellectual to cease progression on study or ideology in fear of your donor base backlashing.

He has some useful nuggets regarding psychoanalysis of the left and right, where his discussion of flaws (like the right's likeier tendency to be disgusted bringing out the pathogenic fear of "the other") but in general it's biased babble from a man whose core discussions often revolve around him fighting back against outliers on the far left who photoshopped a swastika over his face.

If he wants the privilege of discussing everything under the sun (even things he's grossly unqualified to talk about), like some all-you-can eat buffet (as the one article put it), conveniently glossing over Trump's role as the biggest encourager of division in modern American politics is so gross and self-seeking.

well its just absurd to have any handful of random, unelected, unchosen people, regardless of behavior, represent an entire group. if thats how it works, jp, you are a violent murderer that should be dealt with, based on the number of jp supporters who have sent me actual death threats.

its badfaithing af how any random perceived-leftie blackmask wearers are treated, outragewise, the same as or worse than we respond to their elected president and congressmen.

also like the part where after building his career on trashing equality of outcome and anti-redistributional Marxism, he says sex needs to be redistributed via enforced monogamy so men are happy and don't kill people.

this quote stood out to me

Jacob Logan, 18, from Alliston, Ontario, was first in line for Mr. Peterson’s talk on Thursday, May 3 at the Queen Elizabeth Theater. He had arrived 12 hours early, wearing a shirt with lobsters stacked upon each other. He also had 100 name tags to hand out on which he had scrawled the name “Bucko.” It’s a nickname Mr. Peterson sometimes uses for his fans.

“Whenever I listen to him, it’s like he’s telling me something I already knew,” Mr. Logan says. “Learning is remembering.”

just because higher ed and liberal arts are such a fixation for Peterson and his fans and aspiring opening acts. beyond the culture war signalling his message is that everything you kind of know is right and just and every project that seeks to evaluate whether something is true or good or accurate is malicious and marxist and oppressive.

I remember reading Camille Paglia on the Vagina Monologues when I was university, and thinking like okay this woman who had written books hates it, with footnotes, and people in my english seminars like it so I'm smarter than them because I don't wanna go see the Vagina Monologues. If I were doing undegrad today I think I probably never get past this kind of smarmy reactionary thinking, it just seems too easy to find support for it, and reassurance that it's right and the product of courageous free thinking.
