What's the best Cure record to listen to while depressed?

Seventeen Seconds or Faith?

Not like wistful, romantic depression. More like, bleak, "am I even a person in a body?" depression.

Pornography then obviously.

I actually personally dont worship Pornography like a lot of cure fans do. It's lower tier in their 80's stuff for me. Above The top, possibly under TIB. Plus the good songs on it are so much better live anyway.

i guess i'm gonna rank the cure records now cause it had to happen some time

Disintegration
Faith
KMKMKM (tough call though because i dont like at least half that record, but the half i like is so good)
The head on the door
Seventeen seconds
Wish
Three imaginary boys
Pornography
Japanese Whispers (they call it a singles album but it has 8 songs like most early cure records and those songs wouldnt be on record otherwise and most of those weren't singles so it counts)
The Top
Wild Mood Swings

and everything else doesn't need to be rated.

Just had an idea to rank top 20 cure songs and then realised there's no way i can do this. But i think some of you should try.... I got the idea in part cause none of the ranked records have Charlotte Sometimes on them which is a crime.

this is one of my favorite things ever

one of my favorite bassline ever too.

It's weird, I find 17 Seconds and Faith to be far more depressing than Pornography. Pornography to me feels almost like the cinematic version of depression. All histrionic and showy, whereas the 17S/Faith has a disturbing quiet, bleakness to them that really unsettles me.

pornography is my go-to album for when my brain is in a really dark place and i don't have the will to try to make myself better. realistically i think one hundred years on repeat would probably do the trick. disintegration is my go-to for lovesickness, although i listened to it so much while crushing on one specific girl so it's a bit harder to listen to now.

i haven't listened to a lot outside of those two albums, but i feel pretty confident that pictures of you is their best song

feel like this thread should not forget to appreciate jokester Robert smith

absolutely love this song no matter how wrong it is, i mean to be fair he paints the character as a pathetic figure. Still it wasn't lost on me it was NOT included in the bonus disc of the remastered TIB. Whereas pretty much all of their other early songs/demos were. Probably even Smith cringes at this song a little now.

discs 1 and 2 and the first half of 3 are essential listening if you have any interest in this band.

I inadvertently kinda ripped this song off a few years ago. I swear it was not deliberate because i hadn't heard that song in years but it was clearly in my subconscious and then someone heard it eventually and was like "dude, this is halo" and then i was very ashamed. Like i knew i was mimicking The Cure sound wise, sure, that was not in doubt, but i didn't think it was any specific tune. I mean i suppose it's mostly the guitar line that does part of the main Halo bassline but still.

actually, may as well:
