“Leo Son & The Q-Tip Bandits isn’t just another singer-songwriter backed by an impersonal band that is estranged from the creative process. They are all involved in arranging Leo’s songs, incorporating contemporary groove heavy themes derived from hip-hop, jazz, and rock. As a collective, they care more about bringing the songs to life than about claiming authorship, and recognize that as students at Berklee College of Music they can develop an appreciation for harmonically dense and esoteric music while maintaining an appreciation for simplicity and accessibility. Ultimately, they would rather make you feel than think.”

i think it was maybe wrong of me to bring Dave Cobb into this. to do so definitely fully dissolves any meaningful distinction between Hoot and alt-country.

i, for one, aspire to helm an impersonal band that is estranged from the creative process

I played at thee goodly plough n stars once and it was such an echo chamber that i,had to play with "hot rods", which are like little bundles of sticks. But all the little sticks broke bc i hit the rims of the drums a lot, so at the end of the night the sticks were basically nonexistent and my kit was surrounded with wood chips

After a regional surge of fame the bassist would quit the band to focus on his old-timey barbershop

though dave cobb is not really a hoot bro, this thread, for me at least, has turned into a place just to talk about sick shit and i guess he's kinda hoot adjacent. so let's celebrate that video and dave cobb's recording style just because.
