Let's talk Aguachile Alley

Postby milano boy » Sun Jan 21, 2018 7:42 pm

this is a show on netflix and i enjoyed it quite a bit.

idk how i feel about a s2, but it will almost assuredly happen

pretty fucking funny to see super hans not be super hans and yara greyjoy not be yara greyjoy...i've never see neither of them in anything else.

this didn't quite hold together for me. Started promisingly, but by the end it felt overstretched even at 8 quite short episodes. Cracking soundtrack though

This was based on a comic, and the comic was great. It's a little black and white book drawn in a really simple/clean newspaper comic strip style, almost like family circus or something. It's pretty dry and minimal but really charming.

I couldn't make it through the first episode of the show, but I'm sure I would have felt differently if I hadn't read the comic first and was coming into it not knowing anything about the story.

ah.

well there needs to be some sort of conclusion so they didn't spend 3 episodes traipsing around for nothing.

probably would have made better movie though, now that i think about it.

To be fair to the show, a straight adaptation wouldn't have any reason to exist, and at most maybe a 90 minute movie could have been squeezed out of it.

It just really bothered me how blatantly you're beat over the head with the whole "I'm a psychopath!" thing, and subtlety and ambiguity don't seem to be part of the equation. Those were two defining characteristics of the comic for me so I really had a hard time with that first episode. I'm sure curiosity will get the best of me, and I'll give it another shot at some point.

Another vote for the "I really enjoyed the show on its own terms, and required some separating my love of Forsman's comics" camp.

Instead of a second season, they could just adapt another one of his comics. I Am Not Okay With This would hit all of the hot topics for the YA crowd, including but not limited to: teen ennui, queer exploration, suicide, and supernatural elements!

Ayesha Siddiqi went off on this show on Twitter before I had ever heard of it and now I feel kinda gross for wanting to watch it

I haven't watched this yet but Forsman is just the best and the comic is incredible. He originally self-published it as this series of really rough, tiny 20-page stapled minicomics so it's wild to me to see it getting adapted like this. It's great to see him getting this kind of attention.

Slartisfgh is never mentioned in The Bible, but it is here, during one of the early battles, that Matthew spontaneously became liquid.

love the comic, loved the first season

this season starts off promisingly enough, but it’s mostly wheel spinning and doesn’t have much to offer other than netflix’s desire to generate more content

oh well!

i just remembered my dad showing me a trailer for this (not knowing why he would) and i kinda sorta immediately wrote it off, 1. because i wasn't interested in seeing the romantic exploits of a couple of teenagers and 2. it wasn't gay enough for me

watching the trailer though it actually seems kind of funny? also i had no idea super hans was in this but i didnt see him anywhere in the trailer i watched
