I saw this at a shitty art house in cambridge and I was shocked to see like 70% hands go up when the programmer asked the crowd who had never seen it

I'd always assumed it was canon but I guess I'm getting old and the new generation of twentysomething film nerds don't consider it as such

I saw it three times in the theater when it came out.

It's still the only movie I have seen in a theater more than once.

i really appreciate how it's around or maybe even under 100 minutes long. i know gravity is wayyyyyyy worse but i also appreciated how cuaron at least made it around that length too.

yeah it's one of those rare films that ends and you get this cocktail of feelings that's equal parts "wait—that's it?" and "oh shit of COURSE that's where it ends"

Even Charlie Hunnam's nutty acting fits well in this movie

god everyone wanted a crazy one'er in their dumb movie after this

even as recently as last year, Atomic Blonde tried to cram a couple pseudo one-shots in there, and it reeked of, "lets combine ong bak and children of men!" and it predictably sucked

no one's touched these sequences since

Had a hefty gift card for the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin when this came out. One day it snowed/iced over the whole city so I went and saw this alone during a matinee screening and ordered a ton of comfort food in the warm theatre. Maybe my favorite cinematic experience I've ever had.

If anyone ever wondered, the original novel sucked.

I'm on mobile and can't embed youtubes at the moment but one thing I noticed this time around was how Court of the Crimson King is mixed in this sequence

there's basically three major moments where it's being used, and it's like:
1. theo in the car
2. theo pulling up to his brother's building
3. theo entering his brother's living room

and within each of these moments, the song continues, but the volume/effect is altered slightly, so even though it doesn't make sense as a bit of diegetic audio until it sounds like it's being played on his brother's speakers, you're still left with the impression that it was always being played within the confines of the sequence

would love to hear someone dive into small decisions like this

can't think of any recent film or tv that's gone as great of a job of near-future dystopia. with the unwashed hordes in the streets, just feels so real

Day one thousand of the siege of Seattle. The Muslim community demands an end to the Army's occupation of mosques. The Homeland Security bill is ratified. After eight years, British borders will remain closed. The deportation of illegal immigrants will continue. Good morning. Our lead story. The world was stunned today by the death of Diego Ricardo, the youngest person on the planet. Baby Diego was stabbed outside a bar in Buenos Aires after refusing to sign an autograph.
