I rode hard during the good years and turned on a whole mess of people. I even spent very real money on their 80s records. Many more years logged as a skeptic now than as a fan.

loved indie rock or bands or w/e for the longest time

wound up burnt out and sour on it for a wee while longer

now i'm going to listen to the pre-distressed bray of Unwound all morn and have a blast, i'm very to each their own about this stuff now and can't imagine ragging on music for an entire thread (the discursive and delirious unboxing of a phenom, like in the hoot thread, is different)

I had to apologize because she was crying

i think we all have stories like this from college. in 2007, approx when i first started boarding/lurking, jbrooks would boast about doing it

After listening to it, I texted my All Songs Considered co-host Robin Hilton the following: "good lord this Typhoon album is brilliant ... haven't cried listening to a record since [Sufjan Stevens'] Carrie And Lowell."

Arcade Fire started off as a death metal band with their debut Funeral. They then went christian rock with an album about a bible. Wouldn't really slap the indie tag on them tbh

it's like... hey, is indie rock the thing that came out of punk and post-punk from a long stretch in the late seventies to the end of the eighties, and then it became another thing with nirvana, pavement and sebadoh in the nineties and then ahahdhfhsaogp;s;hgh

This is about right. But we here at Hipinion pride ourselves on judging everything and everyone and that ain't ever gonna stop. Also the hoot thread makes me feel far worse than this thread.

good thread lol
i like some indie rock but dont find myself listening to it that often these days. also there was a time at which i stopped seeking out new indie rock bands because i found the pitchfork hype machine thing to blow things way outta proportion compared to how good(/bad) i thought they were. arcade fire was the beginning of the end for me. also indie rock is a pretty dumb genre. aaaaaaalso dont like that much black metal but the weakling album is alltime tops
