How much of this is MLB's decision vs the tv stations'

Knowing absolutely nothing about how all this works, I'm guessing it's one of the biggest reasons the huge tv contracts teams have been signing are so valuable. Double edged sword. They're enabling your favorite team, who you can't actually watch, to sign better players and offer bigger contracts.

You are probably right, but figuring out a way to make blackout free streaming a reality is a pretty sure-fire way to slow down the loss of viewership and I doubt the MLB is putting much, if any, effort into making that a reality in the future
if anything they put more effort into sniffing out work arounds even more, I bought a month trial to nhl.tv (who is run by the same company who runs mlb.tv) and they eventually figured out you could chromecast with a VPN and blacked it out, so I cancelled it

rooting for teams (outside of your favorite one) is so passé

rooting for individual players is so much more fun

Yeah the Cards went through a real long rough patch there, can't imagine what a relief it is to finally break out of it after so much suffering

went to Lopez's debut, and Moncada's too. Going to debuts feels like a form of collecting. Except instead of collecting objects, I'm collecting the experience of being present for a potentially great player's White Sox debut. Beats the hell out of souvenir mugs.

shark week, you just gave me a flashback to matt wieters being on the cover of sports illustrated where they were predicting him to be the greatest catcher of all time.

yah, it's funny to me that Wieters managed two Gold Gloves even though he debuted in '09 and BP's pitch framing metrics started in '08. he's always ranked at the bottom of those. a couple years later everyone realized he was never gonna make the swing adjustment to fix his excessively long swing. it's never stopped pitchers and managers from speaking on him in such glowing terms.

he went 0-4 with a K in his debut which feels about right. the very next night he hit the first of his 5 career triples. he's the slowest Oriole i've seen live on the basepaths.

also, who claimed Daniel Murphy?

and if you're the Nats, do you pack it in and recoup the 4$mil he's owed over the next six weeks?

7.5 games behind the Braves but finally have a fully clicking lineup and get Strasburg back this week
