Britpop means the world to me, like not only does so much of this hold up so well as some of the best pop music ever but finding this stuff as a teenager was just huge for developing my sense of politics and aesthetics. But considering the scene in sum it’s weird to even call it a genre; like it’s only a genre in the sense that post-punk was, which of course britpop is the direct descendent of that world, so of course it’s as varied and diverse as it’s precursor. Like the only way you have a genre that includes both spiritualized and saint etienne is if the genre that birthed it had both orange juice and public image. Anyone that writes off the genre cus they don’t like blue or oasis are straight up missing an entire decade of pops evolution, and that’s a shame even before you get into just how many insanely good bands fit into this category.
