but beyond that these early films gain cachet also for the aesthetics they pioneer. as the moment of their release fades and younger and younger people consume them things begin to seem more like aesthetic choices and not period or technological quirks. you hear this all the time when people want "soul" or "authenticity" in their music. I don't know enough about film to cite very good examples but I'm positive there are en vogue stylistic choices or technical limitations that shape the audience's idea of "good," or "realness" in film.

it happens for everything

i think perhaps the weird jarring feeling of the marvel uber-reach that is happening right now is that in so many other cases culture has been fragmented into all these little corners and scenes and then everywhere you go there's a damn marvel pr push

lets have the superhero movies stop and good hollywood action/crime movies come back in their place. thatd be good! i know this isnt a 1:1 but i really do feel like if there was less of an emphasis on churning out marvel movies we'd see more interesting/original genre movies.

very strongly agree with this

what intrigues me about the super-hero movie backlash, and maybe it dovetails with larry's idea about its relative ubiquity in the modern culture of niches (or maybe it's just cultural negative polarization everyone hates each other on the internet), is why do so many people who don't like them search for a principled reason to justify not liking them? guys, you can just not like them! people got different tastes!

it's also a sort of meeting in the middle i think of people writing "intellectual thinkpieces" (for lack of a better term) on things not traditionally thought of as worth the time and the urge to have a take on every take that the internet certainly caters to
