Bennett's biggest crime is that Cut Hands just kinda sux. Saw him live and he just fist pumped while playing his tracks off a laptop.

Not gonna jump into some big defense of dom fernow but I been following similar noise circles since the early 00s Fort Thunder/Providence days and think that while his late career turn towards "techno rock star" or whatever is kinda overwrought, he's def. a major contributor to the US noise scene and has put out tons and tons of great records on Hospital. Kind of surprised at the longevity of the Vatican Shadow stuff, but I guess he found a slightly larger niche to fill. I've had a few conversations w/ him at End Tymes and the old Hospital store and he just seems like a sincere weirdo nerd.

Prurient stuff that I think is particularly good
Rose Pillar
Pleasure Ground
Colonialist Nature and Misanthropy
Oxidation
Stun Gun
Time Began in a Garden
Unmasking the Insect

He is also unquestionably a puppet of Project Blue Book.

yeah, i wasnt sure but that makes sense. my initial interpretation was broader i guess just wrt the habit PE has in explicitly leaning into things like fascist imagery / violence against women and similar exploitative themes as an aesthetic tentpole and identity calling card

cocaine death was the first thing i downloaded (from an og hpn listening party thread) and heard from prurient/fernow
being p. much a daily coke user at the time, the name and cover appealed to me as I was thinking, uh hoping it was some sort of auditory anxiolytic arp-core come-downer
but good lord whatever i heard at the time was the last smearing of screeching shit i wanted to fucking hear...Another stupid case of title trickery to sell a bunk bag of boo boo.
i even liked a bunch of noise music at the time. this thing was just terrible. it could have at least sounded like a nice first-hit of crack-bell-ringer then a steadily increasing heart rate until it explodes. thats a 20 second song tops. he could have sold it as a 20 second hand-spliced tape loop and sold that garbage.
'Cocaine Death' as a sonic even perhaps scientific-based concept of a relief of the dopamine depletion after a three day cocaine binge aka a 'suicide sunday' is a much better idea.

But you did call an album Buchenwald.

Yeah, and so what? It’s just a name.

It’s a name that’s charged.

It’s just a name, though. There’s no message beyond the use of the name. There are lots of books that use that name and even classical pieces. I mean there’s a band called Joy Division, why isn’t that controversial?

weird to me that he was ever in Cold Cave but i guess if you're making synth based music in NY/Philly in 2008-9-10 he was gonna crawl out of your closet with a bag of coke and suggest he be in your band

ive also read a lot of vatican shadow interviews where he always emphasises sound is the last part of the process, getting the story and visuals and message is the first and most important part. like ?? ?? and you land on THIS. also complains a lot on how he rarely gets sent stuff which tells a compelling story using i presume the same methodology as he does. anyway im going to send him in my project of reclaiming misogyny via thomas aquinas as im a fellow displaced medievalist.

cocaine death is one of his best releases imo

imperial d and ottoman b are great but he's released tons of other good things too. not going to list stuff.

and whitehouse are one of the best live bands i've ever seen

remember the scene in 24 Hour Party People when Tony Wilson fields a reporter's question about Joy Division's band name and he deflects with "what about Scritti Politti? why isn't that name controversial?"
