love hillman and parsons

but i don't really listen to the byrds. the first 3 fbb albums are probably some of my most listened to albums.

NOTORIOUS BYRD BROTHERS is a masterpiece but they have some problematic lyrics

i like graham parsons but the byrds shifting to his sound was unfortunate to me

Sweetheart of the Rodeo is an all-timer for me; I’m a pretty big sucker for that Gram Parsons sound. Ironically I never got much into their more iconic jangly stuff, despite loving the bands that were influenced by it.

Yeah, I like Sweethearts too but the premise of the thread actually hits home. Sometimes I hate it, too glossy or something.

i just liked the byrds when they were working in some liminal space between garage rock and psychedelic cowboy, not full-on country rock which can feel a little too much like comfort food to me

this was gradual and that liminal state was basically "ironic" hick shit which was of course problematic no matter which way you approach it now but... those are great tunes
