WE ARE THE MONSTER HUNTERS: PC WORLD

Let's talk Aguachile Alley

Postby a-10 warthog champion » Wed Aug 08, 2018 3:06 pm

I'm sure this has been covered in the VG threads (probably both) a bit, but with Monster Hunter World coming out, and knowing a lot of us were waiting for pc, I figured I'd start a thread.

If anyone is looking to pre-order, fanatical has it at 20% off right now.

https://www.fanatical.com/en/franchises/monster-hunter?GSCsource=MonsterHunterWorld-08082018

release is tomorrow

lets hunt some monsters y'all

The CPU. How bad is it? Am I good?

In this regard, all we can say for certain right now is that it's very CPU heavy. From what I have seen, users of Haswell i5 CPUs, and even stock clock Haswell i7 CPUs are going to struggle with the CPU load this game generates. So if you're someone with their 144Hz 1080p panel hoping to be pushing that panel, you're going to have to accept that it probably won't happen based on the CPU alone. As seen in this video, a stock clocked i7 6700K is being given a run for it's money at 1080p High with Volume Rending disabled and a 980Ti, just having your charecter run around.

At this time, Ryzen is an unknown. I will personally be testing with my own, 3.9GHz R7 1700 on launch to see what's-what.

TL;DR: Even higher end i7s are struggling based on pre-release testing. If you're someone with a weaker CPU, e.g. Ryzen 3 or Skylake i5 and older, you will be cranking down settings and seeing FPS drops.

ouch. i just want the game to be runnable even with frame drops and ~25 fps

well optimized games aren't, it's just that japanese console ports have a history of being poorly optimized

loading screen maximizes my cpu load out to 99%. becomes stable 60fps on menu screens, gameplay is playable 25-30 fps with occasional frame drops and audio sync issues, and this is on an i5-750, which is **well below** minimum requirements, so, don't be too worried i guess?

though i might end up refunding this anyway if it performs a bit too poorly

that hasn't really been the case for the last few years, they've been really good, at least stuff ported over from ps4. I'm running Yakuza 0 fine on a processor from 2009 and a game being a port is usually a good sign that i'll be able to run it on high settings without issues (MGS5, Yakuza, Nier, etc). They've really picked up their game now that Japanese PC gaming seems to be blowing up.

supposedly the cpu issue is denuvo but it seems like it's being overstated.

denuvo being the ultimate cause for cpu load is kinda false, and i dislike denuvo as much as the next guy

i don't think there's too much cause for concern for low-end systems yet as far as i can tell. your processor is a bit stronger than mine, and i haven't dipped below 30 fps to proclaim it unplayable yet, but i've yet to encounter some heavy firefight monster
