Admittedly I feel a bit odd about starting this thread, but I feel like there is a growing apathy towards capitalism here and I want us to have productive conversations about our future. I really liked this interview I read last year and it has helped shaped my view on things

Weird moment for this to happen but I'm literally stuck in the Ryanair strike in Porto and feel nothing but solidarity for my sisters and brothers. Worst case scenario I'm stuck in this amazing city.

NJ just passed a law giving striking workers the right to earn unemployment in situations where their employer is in violation of a labor contract.

I get that you're doing a snark but as a newer boarder that thread seems to have some baggage associated with it due to who started it and it's nice to wipe the slate clean.

If you're really a socialist why don't you give me all of your money right now?
Now here is the lake. And I still haven't changed.

I don't actually know what Bartatua meant, but as far as I go, not exactly but it's probably a cousin to that concept.

I don't think you can exactly be a NIMBY in a city as dense as Philly. We have a major homeless shelter/soup kitchen a block away, housing projects about three blocks away, a subsidized mental health facility across the street, hookers working our street all night every night. So, like, in terms of literal NIMBY-ism, no, that's not a thing.

But as far as being yr stereotypical yuppie elitist dingbat who loves going out to brunch for $14 eggs and cocktails (or would if it didn't require me to wake up before noon) and nevertheless has come to view socialism as the only solution to a host of problems in this country, yeah, I'm in that demographic.

Right on!

I feel a little in the woods with the parties in my state. I'm looking to be more active w the Greens since they have limits on wealth as part of their platform. But they still feel a bit too centrist for my liking.

I know I could eventually start my own party here in Australia, but I'm hoping to get more involved w labor unions first and get experience organising before taking that plunge. Any advice on such matters is greatly appreciated.

I get people's teasing, but I really hope to get something going here that is free of cynicism. We can accomplish a lot if we let our guard down and start helping one another. We can't progress alone as individuals. We must care for and support each other.
