Gross/bizarre medical ailments you've had

Jesus christ you have to be kidding me.

and yeah i once had a really bad ingrown hair cyst pop and when i extracted the hair it was literally like 4 inches long. that was early in my obsessive cycling life, and it was a saddly sore too. good times.
Congrats! You look like you're in a lot of pain in that picture.

I had scarlet fever. I think it is pretty much the same. I also had mono twice that year, so maybe mine was actually mono rash.

The worst part was when the skin peeled off.

I also have geographic tongue, which sucks.

It flared up tonight. It burns and feels like there's food on my tongue, but it's just swollen taste buds. I ate too much salsa.

I've had mild psoriasis on my hands which I can treat with steroid creme without a problem, but now I've got it in my thumbnail bed and the whole nail is coming off in a rather terrible way.

Cavernous angioma:
Basically a bunch of blood vessels in the right temporal lobe of my brain had grown together into a tangled clump and started to "leak" (doctor's word). So they had to crack open my skull and cut it out of my brain. Saw the post-surgery MRI and there is now, literally, a small cavity deep in my right temporal lobe where the angioma used to be.

Huh. I had both of these. Scarlet fever almost killed me when I was 4 and in Japan.

As for the taste buds, I have some mild allergies that will cause taste buds to get infected and swell, and I just pull them out.

I also have a scar on my wrist from what I assume is a spider/tick/something bite. It looked like just a mosquito bite for about a week, then made my wrist swell up to twice its size and start turning green.

i had a golf ball-sized MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) infection on my ribcage just south of my heart. this presented as a small, really painful pimple. i tried to pop it one night and when i woke up the next day it had doubled in size. it kept growing and growing, at a certain point i realized it was something infected so i tried all these wild remedies (some weird black cream that was supposed to "draw out" the infection, etc).

long story short, it grew to epic size and i had to go to the student center at UPenn (this was during my last semester in grad school). they took a culture, which hurt like fucking hell, and put me on antibiotics. a few days later they called me in and said they had tested the culture with 10 different antibiotics, and that it had not responded to any (including the one i was on). they switched me to another antibiotic and took another culture. same deal, only they tested it with 50 antibiotics. 49 did nothing to this staph, but 1 had "a small success" fighting the bacteria. so they took me off of the second anti-biotic and put me on Levaquin. i had to remain on the Levaquin for 2 months.

a few weeks later as i was wandering through the living room after a shower, the thing just erupted. honey mustard pouring like a waterfall down my side, out of nowhere. like a garbage pail christ. the best part was that my roommate and his girlfriend were looking right at me when it happened. they still talk about it. felt like 25 orgasms.

i had a recurrence a few months later, a line of staph pimples across my abdomen and on my hands. had to go back on the anti-biotics and stay in the hospital to be certain it hadn't made it into my blood. i was lucky, it didn't.

for future reference, alicin kills MRSA, so you can crush garlic and apply it directly to your infection next time

doctors do know this now. When MRSA outbreak started to hit big (it's been around forever), allicin had not been synthesized and was unstable. So basically the only way to get it was through garlic itself. Doctors are not going to prescribe you garlic.

Allicin is considered to be the strongest antibacterials in the world.

i've got geo tongue as well (only put a name to it in the past year, thought i just had an ugly fucking tongue), it never really flares up or bothers me aside from the fact that its ugly and i'm ashamed to stick out my tongue preventing me from properly taunting people and animals.

They really aren't that big of a deal, but they smell like death.

We had a thread about these on the last mk. apparently, it's pretty common among hpn.

I used to get them all of the time, because my tonsils are all scarred up from when I had strep once. However, I haven't been eating any grits or oatmeal lately, and you'd be surprised how much that put a dent in it. I only get like one big one a month now.

Tonsilolliths are horrifying, though, when you don't know what they are.
