"Homer's Enemy" is like watching a bad Ben Stiller movie where the world keeps shitting on him for no reason, really stressful to watch

still some great moments in it though

i adore the Chief Wiggum, P.I. segment but the rest is pretty trash aside from Jasper singing "Lollipop"

And I'm going to ignore season 9 because the answer would be "just about everything from season 9".
So my answer is "My Sister, My Sitter." Even as a kid that episode left a bad taste in my mouth.

yeah my sister my sitter is weird. although i still love bart's "go to bread" scene and lisa's story about robots named rod and todd.

I don't know why "go to bread" sticks with me, it's a really terrible joke.

Though an accurate sibling joke, I suppose.

I think that episode sticks out because it was an attempt to inject some reality into the show with grimes

I thought it worked really well, but I'm glad that was one of the only times they tried that kind of thing (during the golden age years anyway).

I mean the end of the episode is the whole town laughing at homer's antics over his grave, it was pretty dark

i'd forgotten how mean spirited "my sister, my sitter" is, but i always liked it as a kid. probably because like most of the episodes that deal with a strain on bart and lisa's relationship, it ends in a fairly cathartic way

Yeah this was it. All high concept indiana jones nonsense and surprisingly few laughs for a Simpsons episode at the time.

its painful to watch

i love the "play it cool" song though

it's been a while since I've seen it, but I remember the one where bleeding gums murphy dies being particularly bad.

apparently it's the debut of "cheese-eatin' surrender monkeys" and as such I take back anything bad I said about it.

mayor quimby, you are well known for your lenient stance on crime, but suppose for a second that your house was ransacked by thugs, your family was tied up in the basement with socks in their mouths, you try to open the door but there's too much blood on the knob

Yeah Sideshow Bob Roberts is great

I love Lady Bouvier's Lover but yeah that Chicken Tonight gag is easily the most horrendously dated thing they did during those years.

i was thinking of putting bart on the road but didn't want to catch a bunch of shit for it. feels like a late season 9 episode. the wigs, the toy dog, nelson loving a musical. almost none of it worked for me.

I hated Lisa the Vegetarian the first time I saw it but i've softened on it a bit. It's still one of my least favorites from the classic seasons.
