echoing all the praise for the carlin/mande episode of HH. i was losing my shit right away with hayes' harmonica noises in the opening ad.

hopefully earwolf/stitcher are compensating them well. i do wonder how much of the complaints about notcompensating guests/lack of promotion/etc is actually a joke.

Going on a lil road trip and would love and appreciate some essential comedy podcast episode recommendations. HH, CBB, REM, Analyze Phish, etc. I really liked the Wain REM and Mande HH episodes fwiw.

I think the two episodes of HH with Allison Rich, are great. Sinbad episode too. Anything with Joe Wengert. The Nip/Tuck commentary episode

CBB: Farts and Procreation and Time Bobby trilogies. Most Andy Daly/Mantzoukas episodes. #156 Anniversary. First few Halloweens with Gelman/Daly. #176 Leykis/Poehler / #197 Rust/Heidecker/Daly. #297 with Joe Wengert.

i ran out of steam, but that should cover the early-middle era. the last year Carl Tart and Jon Gabrus are doing the best work on there so look for their eps.

i listened to hollywood handbook for the first time and it was the carlin one. i liked it but reading people talking about it it sounds like it might be the best one. Is there any hope for me

hard to say if there is a best episode. a lot of the reward of the show is repeated listening and bits that occur over like the course of 10 episodes before they get bored with it. the week to week evolution of the show is as important as any single episode. for instance, the multi-episode gag prior to episode 200 about how they were going to end the show is some of the best content they've ever produced. like the mikal cronin episode is really funny, but it wouldn't make much sense without the preceding episodes establishing the chef kevin creep character or that sean and hayes hate the show and want it to end.

its a wonderful show and the carlin one is good but nowhere near the best episode, just the best of the last like 10 or so. im a huge dork for it so here are some of my faves:
Tom Scharpling, Our Close Friend -> Tom Scharpling Again, Our Close Friend -> The Grease Knows Eggs Show with Jesse Thorn -> Handbook East With Tom Scharpling -> The Secret Story of the Missing Episode With Tom Scharpling -> Big Apple Bible, Episode 1 -> Engineer Cody's Engineer Training Boot Camp and School LIVE -> Far East Movement, Our Favorite Band -> Tom Scharpling, Our Christmas Show Architect is the best arc on the whole show
Ellie Kemper, Our Close Friend
Listeners, Our Close Friends (the first one)
D'Arcy Carden, Our Close Friend
Cody and Kevin, Our Facebook Friends
Alex Borstein, Our Close Friend
LIVE FROM SXSW The Future of Comedy
Nicole Byer, Our Close Friend
Stephanie Allynne, Our Close Friend
Both eps with Whitmer Thomas and Clay Tatum
Higher And Mightier With Joe Wengert -> The Wendigabrus, Our Close Friend
Gil Ozeri, Our Close Friend
Lou Wilson, Our Close Friend
Cartoons, Our Close Friends
The ScuzzMan, Dom's Close Friend -> The ScuzzMan Returns
Yassir Lester, Our Close Friend
Sinbad, Our Close Friend

yeah exactly. that is a really good list (except i'm not huge on the scharpling episodes). i really liked the Stephanie Allynne and Nicole Byer episodes. I think they have better rapport with female guests.

i wanna add:

episode #88 'Neil Campbell, Our Close Employee' (has the TEDD talks)
episode #36 'John Cochran, Our Close Friend' (hipinion's very own, has a skellington mom)
episode #98 'John Cochran, Our Close Friend'
episode #217 'Listeners, Our Close Friends 4' (the most recent from last december, it's hilarious IIRC)

there's probably earlier shows i'm forgetting, it's hard to remember individual HH episodes, it's just such sustained quality for so long

What’s the one with solo Sean and it ends with him having a sad dance party to “Lay Lady Lay” with puppets? I love Hayes but I think that’s my favorite.

Didn't you get the memo, Tina Fey boards here as delgriffith. The British thing is a flimsy cover at best.
