I definitely appreciate all the philly in jokes, you don't hear WaWa humor very often on internationally appreciated comedy shows.

I'm working through any of the CBB episodes since the start of the year that interest me, is there any great episodes with people I might not know about? I'm generally just picking episodes I know the guests on. The intro theme has been stuck in my head all week because of how much I've listened to.

And The Best Show really needs to be cut by maybe an hour. I listened to it religiously from about 2008 to the start of 2011 but I can't handle a full three hours now, you stop actively listening to it after a while. The Tom & Paul F Tompkins tear apart of the Gathering of the Juggalos trailer is till the funniest thing I've ever heard on a podcast though.

my biggest laughs are usually the variations on like

hes 20 minutes into the show and gets two annoying calls in a row and just gives up and is like

"mike start the car its time to pull the plug"

or

"mike put on Pangaea, i'm outta here"

the show isn't really that long, with the music removed it's less time that WTF puts out every week.

i get that but at the same time, theres callbacks and threads through an episode that make it sorta difficult to break up into chunks.

i usually listen to like 30-45 min at a time, but sometimes by the third chuck i've forgotten what happened in the first half hour and it loses its rhythm and i just give up.

my new job is music friendly but not friendly to headphones or podcasts, I'm really far behind on everything and I'm kinda bummed. Thankfully the music selections are pretty solid but I miss my podcasts.

i'm the opposite.

my audio consumption time is my commuting and training time, and ive found i prefer podcasts to music, so in the past few years ive become a voracious podcast consumer and my new music exposure has slowed to a crawl.

kind of a bummer actually. i used to be insatiable... and now i dont think ive listened to ten new albums this year yet.

You should listen to Legacy Music Hour then, it's a podcast but it's also retro (video game) music so it's the best of both worlds.

Finally finished the Shapiro WTF today. I couldn't shake the feeling that Shapiro was, in a lot of ways, Maron if he hadn't cleaned up. They sound so similar at times in that interview, minus the stuttering and shaky voice.

Yeah I noticed that on the Boston page Heidecker and Adomian were listed, none of the other dates have "also appearing" but it's safe to assume there's gonna be a shit ton of guests.

Am I alone in disliking Scott Aukerman? I sometimes enjoy CBB because he has great guests, but I typically find him unfunny and fairly annoying. Same goes for the TV show.

man i gotta say, i was a long time nerdist apologist, but even i admit its been wearing pretty thin lately, both the increasingly annoying hostful dynamic, and the limitations of chris' skill as a WTF style serious invterview conductor...

but so far this new one where he interviews his dad is just the most entertaining, sweet thing hes ever done.

i would say its almost entirely down to how charming his dad is but fuck its sooo good.

i downloaded some maron podcasts after perusing this thread a bit for a recent road trip. i could only really stand to listen to his weird al interview which was good in spite of maron and mostly due to my interest in al himself, but i feel like i'm missing something. he's just so classicly radio guy with the over enunciation and annoyingly general statements. he seems good at getting people comfortable enough to talk at length about their art or whatever, is that his appeal? i'm genuinely curious whether i should try listening to more.

Maron is best when he's interviewing comedians, and is pretty boring when he's doing anything else. If you don't care about stand up comedians in particular, then there's no real point in listening to it (I think).

He's definitely gotten to be a better listener though, which sucks because it's starting to seem like he's running out of (relevant) guests. in his early podcasts his tendency to keep saying Yeah over and over used to drive me up the fuccin wall. He does it for like 3 minutes in a row in the Louis C.K. episode.

don't usually listen this, but this was pretty good, merely just because you never see letterman do this kind of stuff:

This week on Here's The Thing, Alec talks with late-night legend David Letterman. Letterman describes his early years on TV in Indiana; his decision to try radio despite a boss who said “You will never be heard of again”; and his eventual journey to LA where after 3 years at comedy clubs he found himself on The Tonight Show. As Letterman says, "that's not supposed to happen."

Letterman’s been doing the Late Show for 30 years and he says for a long time he “just didn’t do anything else.” Things have changed now, he tells Alec; he has “no patience for meetings” and he avoids making decisions on the show. Dave is also taking time to explore the world with his 8-year old son: “when you have a child you do things you never thought you would do, and it’s fun.”
