Nutty start. 4 cars out in two separate incidents without any completed green flag laps.

Force India were a bit optimistic with that pit strategy that got Perez and Ocon so close together on the track

Where are all you people? Batshit silly season unfolding in Nascar:

  • Alex Bowman to replacing Earnhardt Jr. in the 88.

  • Kasey Kahne out of the Hendrick Motorsports 5, likely to the Leavine Family Racing 95 with some kind of technological alliance with Hendrick, or possibly GMS Racing in a new Cup team.

  • William Byron moves up to Cup and replaces Kahne - car renumbered to #24, Chase Elliott's car renumbered to #9.

  • Matt Kenseth loses his ride at Joe Gibbs Racing, Erik Jones to replace him in the 20. No new ride announced for Kenseth.

  • Furniture Row Racing 77, which fielded Jones' car this year, shutting down.

  • Danica leaving Stewart Haas, no further announcement.

  • Ryan Blaney moves from the Woods Brothers Ford to a new third Penske car.

  • Paul Menard leaves the Richard Childress Racing #27 to replace Blaney in the 21.

  • The RCR 27 is a question mark. Shut down? Maybe Kenseth lands there?

  • Smithfield Foods tells Richard Petty to suck a dick, was only using him to get close to Aric Almirola. Smithfield flees to Stewart Haas, along with (in all likelihood) Aric Almirola to Danica's old car.

  • Bubba Wallace likely coming up from Xfinity to replace Almirola in the 43. With no announced sponsor. Bad vibes :?

Follllooooowwww the money

Also, hilarious local ambulance crew parked in the pit entry when the cars were trying to pit. At least it was under yellow.

https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/131789/renault-split-could-force-red-bull-to-honda

Ferrari and Mercedes have no intention to extend supply deals beyond their current commitments, and were not interested in Red Bull supply for 2016 when previously offered the chance.

That would leave Red Bull with no option but to agree a Honda deal sooner rather than later.

A complete divorce between Red Bull and Renault after just one more season is no surprise given the public breakdown in the relationship in 2015 and subsequent rebadging of the engine as TAG Heuer.

This seems like a bad deal for everyone involved.

Honda will get it together eventually, especially after they somewhat simplify the power unit in the next go around. I think Red Bull is a winner here. I read months ago that they were angling for this to happen, it just sounds like Renault forced their hand.

Well I want to believe that but

what do you know that McLaren (which is dumping Honda in rather outspoken fashion) doesn't?

McLaren has been losing sponsors and championship point payout for the last three years due to abysmal performance; they have to think about the short-term. Sure they get big money from Honda and have a small but profitable road car business, but at the end of the day the team needs to be financially viable and they need to be competitive to achieve that. I'm sure they are having issues with retaining staff too.

Obviously their relationship with Honda is in tatters, but they must be under huge pressure to score more points ASAP.

They should just try and move to a simpler, cheaper engine formula asap, like before 2021.
I guess they really can't, but that would be ideal for Cosworth or whoever else to come in.

Why would Red Bull hang around with these crappy engines when they seem to threaten to leave over engines every winter?

Keep the hybrid turbos to keep the manufacturers interested in the technology but higher revs and fuel flow limits so they can be driven harder. Nobody cares about eking out every drop of thermal efficiency in a race. The goal of astonishing increases in the efficiency of F1 power units has been achieved in spades, open it up a bit now.

Cap the cost of an engine supply and let them use as many goddamned engines as they want, too.

I guess they're going to have to change the number on the fire station in Cambridge again.
