New Board Tattoo Thread

Jesus christ you have to be kidding me.

or will he just bring his portfolio of pre-stocked images to pick from? sorry for the deluge of questions but i'm getting pretty hyped by the idea of this happening.

I had no idea tattoo artists went on tour. Do they charge more on tour?

Friday I'm getting the line work and blacks done for my Venture Bros leg. If there's time before I move, I might also get something stupid like LIVE FAT DIE FAT on my feet.

Drunks, that Milpool tattoo is wonderful.

i think it came down to 150/hr which is p standard for dudes his caliber (steve byrne was same). he's pretty fast though. 300+i do 20/hr tip.

as far as an idea, i just showed up the day of with my idea and he started drawing it on the spot, so i'd say just do that. get on the appointment soon though! dude gets booked up quick. he had his laptop there playing a slide show of his portfolio as well so you could probably be like, bring up some of your stuff - do something like that, and he'll go for it.

e: come to think of it, dude who had an appointment with him after me just said "i have 600 dollars, do whatever" and he did.

haha yeah, post results.

and it all depends on the artist as far as tour. it's sort of the beauty of being a good tattoo artist - other artists are stoked to have you come work at their shop and trade flash. it's still very folk art based like that where everyone keeps it in the family. artists pay rent for their station at most tattoo shops, i think on tour they usually just break the shop owners off a little bit at the end but i'm sure there are more formal circumstances as well.

i've heard that name tossed out a couple times now. i'll check him out.

at this point i'm booked three months out, and scooter enthusiasts are up my ass to get parts powder coated. now i just need to find the talented tattoo artist who also wants expedited powder coating before the end of season. do a little day off work in the shop, and get some work done myself.

I'm not even sure who all is going to be in it. Billy and Pete are my shit, so I know they'll be in it. And I just realized I have to make sure he's got Orpheus in there somewhere.

I love Shore Leave, but I think I'm going to wait and get him done as a sort of traditional/nautical themed portrait.

I booked an appointment for Tomas for next Saturday. I'm fuckin waaay stoked about it. They gave me his email address and encouraged me to send some images his way before the appointment so he can begin sketching it out.

I'm thinking I want him to do a kind of take on this image, but I think I want some color and obviously his spin on the piece:

I made a quick search and I found this beautiful dragon. Still nothing from the vintage optical instruments niche.

I may tend to have less input than most into my tattoos, but I think just sending him the one picture with why you want it would be enough. My input is usually limited to three or four words "pig with cigar" or "astronaut at bus stop".

this is some good stuff. keep it coming if you find more stuff. the telescope isn't essential, i'm just really digging vintage space images.

also i've been thinking about getting a tattoo for a while. i don't really know where i'd get it, first of all, but i really like this dude Ricardo Cavolo's work:

i think he like draws things on request that, i mean at least my understanding was that then a tattoo artist somewhere else could get it. like i'd be really down for a stylized version of andrei rublev's trinity for example
Image,

the other idea i sorta toy around with in my head is like kind of an aztec type thing, not like a huge altar or god but maybe some chill animals ImageImageImage

yeah this is true. i don't want to inundate the guy with images and rob him of his artistic vision. but, i'm also a major control-freak so...

yeah i thought that the image sort of extended itself towards tomas' aesthetic. i think maybe i'll just send that one image to him and then let the cards fall where they may.

i also convinced my brother to get something done too. he's pretty struck by the daggers that tomas does.

That's, I think, pretty normal. I think the way I approach getting tattooed is influenced a lot by the fact that I live in a college town and the majority of the stuff these guys are doing is Greek letters, horseshoes and Texas-themed shit. They love getting to do something different, and I think it shows in the work. I doubt that would be an issue dealing with a well-known artist, though.

i'm still trying to decide if i want to go color or not. i only have one piece and it's black and grey and i'm not sure that i want another on my other arm.

any advice on the use of colors?

i wouldn't sweat it. if you want it to look good and just have a little color tell him you want a black/red/yellow piece. those always look really nice.

COLOR BOMB THAT MOTHERFUCKER! :)

Nah, I probably wouldn't get color on something like that but if you are I'd say the fewer colors you use the better.

I considered a sugar skull but this ended up being my first tattoo and while I dont necessarily regret it I dont like the whole dia de los muertos thing it as much as I initially did. this is on my thigh, about 5x8"

oh and that was right when it was finished so a lot of the red is blood and the blue doesnt look as shitty as pictured
