it reminds me of that cult-leader mentor of bachmann they talked about in that new yorker profile in the fall; during one of his instructional videos to born again xtians, he talks about how your opponents can be logically correct about an issue, but still spiritually wrong if their arguments are not bible-based

Hilariously enough, mediaeval scholastics working on logic is one of like three or four times in human history that logic has been studied formally (Aristotle, Stoics, mediaeval era, 19th C. philosophy of math/logic/language leading into computer science and the present).

VDH is a lot more maddening to me than Jonah because I actually enjoy listening to him talk about the ancient world - his farming background lets him approach the subject in a pretty grounded, literal way. But then a couple times a week he writes some awful article about "our post-modern therapeutic nation," which is really the same article that he's been writing for the last 5 years.
