that guy was giving some pretty heinous remarks to the press yesterday after the verdict, FOP really gives unions in general a bad name and give police in general an even worse name because they almost militantly protect bad cops

Show I was working on yesterday was on location at a gun shop & range of all places, out in Lombard. All the usual 2nd amendment crap all over the place, back the blue bumper stickers in the parking lot, etc.

The crew, though, were all following the lead up to the verdict on their phones, everybody hushed and pensive about it. Now, my local is largely left aligned as you might expect, especially the younger generation, but not nearly as politically vocal or militant as I would like to see. This was the first time I really saw a collective interest and urgency in what's happening, and the collective release of tension when my key grip announced the conviction over the walkie was immediate. Hugs and high fives and everything. Really great feeling, especially in the beating heart of trump country.

this thread is a funny contrast to my social media, where every person of color i follow keeps saying that the verdict is great but it's just one cop. some people have posted some thoughtful stories about why they actually wish they could celebrate more but that something restrains them.

idk what level of decent you're looking for, but i enjoy 50/fifty for the wings and fatpour for the beer selection. both will be showing the games but can get slightly crowded. i wish there were divier options that still had the sunday ticket.

ya, i’ve been to 50/fifty, and it’s cool, but i am somewhat worried about how busy it will be. the bears are on a bye, and it’s the marathon tomorrow, so maybe it won’t be so bad...?

and its not the result of big institutional changes, just public pressure which the powers that be can really easily manipulate and defang

depends on what/where you're looking for. My personal favorites are probably vegan plate/urban vegan (lakeview/lincoln park), which is thai food, and handlebar (wicker park), which is basically vegetarian/vegan "comfort food". Not everything at handlebar is vegan but a lot is. chicago diner (lakeview/logan square) is probably the most popular veg place. Kitchen 17 (lakeview) is good too, imo. All of those are basically on the north side though. If you need something in the loop, your options are more limited. There's a native foods on clark and a veggie grill on wells. Those fall in the "fast casual" category, but as I said, your options in the loop are limited.

nah it was like a normal store except everyone inside looked confused and it felt wrong to walk out. i just got a bag of chips to try it but the salads and sandwiches looked pretty good for $5

the one creepy part is that your receipt shows how long you were inside

I went to bad hunter last weekend. It was good, imo. I didn't pay, so that was cool. Enjoyed the coconut ceviche(?) and also there was a mushroom thing that was really good.

Bad hunter is good but pretty expensive for what it is. Dishes were solid but not mind-blowing. Probably wouldn't go back

i thought the food at bad hunter was mostly solid (the masa spaetzle was gross) but the service was really bad on a pretty slow night. we had received basically all of our plates at the same time and were essentially done with our meal by the time our simultaneous drink order came in...also the music was fucking TERRIBLE and insanely loud
