Let's talk Aguachile Alley

dc's other better writer is brian azz.
scott snyder is at johns level already, but his bag is just so different and it's not like he could take johns place or anything.
Slartisfgh is never mentioned in The Bible, but it is here, during one of the early battles, that Matthew spontaneously became liquid.

I'm not sure who could say Grant Morrison is making the best comics at DC right now
Azzarello is a serious answer
Snyder I think we can all agree ain't it at the moment

You know me, I think Morrison operates daily at level most guys just dream about
But I feel like he's in this weird peripheral period where Azzarello may be in genuine mainstream ascendency

neither morrison or azz are MOR in the same way johns is. neither is bendis tbh. johns' closest analogue at marvel is either loeb or waid
i know i'm making a different arguement but i think it's dumb to compare three vastly different writers

right on.
i'm still very disturbed by the odd doom and gloom posts when there are just simply more compelling and must read dcu books than there were previously

loeb hasn't done anything that has felt even slightly consequential. waid is just a class act with a very light workload in the big 2.
it's bendis. the big ideas, madcap/zany exuberance, unpredictable brutality/violence
bendis just defaults to crime and 70s b-heroes while johns is all about old school buddy heroism

not saying that bendis isn't the guy at marvel but at his heart bendis is a crime writer. his "big idea" stuff just doesn't work on the same level as johns and it feels incredibly forced in comparison
at their hearts loeb, johns and waid are superhero writers
i dunno i think millar is actually johns' closet competition

Johns is the total embodiment of DC to me
In a way that really has no comparison, even in a franchise player like Bendis
Anyway as I am making a list of all the titles DC is doing right now, that's the way I'm looking at it who is putting up a body of work that can beat what Johns does for them, everyone else has some sort of downside or feels too slight

Johns downside is that he bores the shit out of me, but I get that's personal

bendis has done so much non crime superhero stuff
entire avengers infinity gems arc..........cmon. his big idea stuff like apocalypse's avenger horsemen absolutely worked exactly like a johns book.
millar is a good comparison but that dude has just completely checked out

I don't like to reveal what my favorites are until the end of the year
But then I guess it's more of who did the best job for twelve months, at this moment it's probably not what you think
Maybe I'll talk about it next week

the best bendis comics are the ones that work on a street level and/or are crime. can you honestly tell me that any of his avengers work feels as right as ultimate spider-man, daredevil or alias? hell powers completely devolved once he started getting all cosmic in it. he can wear the cosmic hat well enough, but it's never felt quite right

i'm uncomfortable with that convenient bendis talking point, and just immediately think "bullshit". but yeat, i think lots of his avengers work feels that way. cap holding out his hand to spidey on the raft, the illuminati meeting busted up by skrulls, the best dark reign issues.............yeah. up there with any of his other stuff easy.

If you like insanely violent Ennis comics, then it'll probably be right up your alley. I find it to be a bit much myself.

It was enjoyable, yeah.
Hadn't read anything of Barbara Kesel's since idk when. Wasn't expecting that reveal. Spike??
Honestly the book was spinning its wheels with the Shredder arc; but now, with all these new threads Waltz and Eastman are pulling, there are few books going right now that have seen this much plot and character development in a year's time.
