https://www.chicagofilmfestival.com/fes ... val-guide/

chicago film festival schedule has been announced and it looks great. i’m trying to go the 22nd and maybe the 19th if i can. trying to decide if at 6 on the 19th i’d rather see pre-crime or rogers park or la familia. touch of evil screening followed by discussion with jonathan rosenbaum sounds incredible too

zeder is like 1/3 zombie movie, 1/3 giallo ,1/3 sci-fi, but it works
le orme (footsteps on the moon) is another good giallo-sci-fi hybrid, but that's like 4/5 giallo. incredible storaro cinematography though

i brought the sci-fi thing up cuz im doing something on the western and realized that (to me) the western seems much more expansive (in terms of what it encompasses & scope, and at least, sheer output and variety of stuff) than the sci-fi, even though you'd think it'd be the other way around

but here's bertrand tavernier's list of underrated westerns u may appreciate: https://letterboxd.com/timeistheking/li ... mados-por/. apache drums, de toth, ulmer
i think timeistheking is also bruno andrade but who remembers these fuckin' things

what's this thing called
Flutehampton will turn out to have always been relished by women who dwell in or near to the past. This is where The Little Reptiles were digitally collected. In recent decades it has become a popular photographic background whenever a maverick cop marries a hooker with a heart of gold.

i thought most of projections was pretty bad but the sky hopinka film ("dislocation blues") is essential. goes up in 5 days i guess.

speaking of this - did Mimosas ever get any kind of post-festival release? I feel like I've been waiting two years for so much as a torrent of this thing

Michael Shannon (Batman v Superman, Midnight Special) and Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), along with co-stars Judy Greer, Ron Perlman, Tom Lennon and Ian McShane

The plot centers on Maynard (Shannon), a beloved local businessman who is mistaken for the legendary Bigfoot. The sightings set off an international Bigfoot media spectacle and a windfall of tourism dollars for a simple American town hit by hard times. When Brock Masterson (Lennon), reality TV's "Monster Hunter," arrives to hunt the beast, Maynard agonizes over whether to come clean, destroying the rebirth of his beloved town, or perpetuate the inadvertent hoax.
