Often I'm totally lost when people say things like "I used my Q50mm 1.43 l/t." but I'm trying to pick things up. I signed up for an 8 week photography class at the local arts center next month that will hopefully teach me basic composition and lighting.
Anyone know where I could get Lightroom for Windows?

just learn to use your camera first. manual mode, no cropping afterwards

this is why i think its helpful to learn on a film camera first. like, get a $50 no frills used Nikon FM/FG or whatever and a 1.4 50mm prime. thats it. just go out and see what you can do. its really easy to get bogged down with modern DSLRs and endless menus and settings. going no frills teaches you to really learn what your camera is doing. it also forces you to be selective in the shots you take...so many people now just take 1,000 digital shots in the hopes that a few are decent but that won't teach you consistency or how to be selective. using a 50mm also forces you to get close to your subjects, and dosent let you fall back on zooming in on shit from a mile away...plus its a great cheap lens anyway.
really try not to worry too much about Lightroom/Photoshop right away. Just focus on composition/lighting/subject, and trying to get it as good as you can in-camera.

It's been a toy in the house for as long as I can remember but I don't think it needs much work.. Though finding someone who still repairs these here might be a problem.
