I dunno. Photography is something that's fun for me, that I do to relax on the weekends/at lunch when I'm at work. I don't really want to make it into something stressful in its own right. Thanks for the encouragement, though.

US-89, just north of the Arizona border. There's obvious smudge on this shot, and normally I hate when that happens but it kinda looks like a lens flare here

Smudge as in like a fingerprint on the lens?

Nice shots regardless.

that's on this art island called naoshima. they have the bennesse house there with a pollock work and yves klein sculpture, amongst other stuff. the island is incredibly beautiful, i'd love to see what kind of shots you could take there. have you ever been to japan/plan on going?

i have a canon eos with the standard lens and i've come top of the class over the rich kids with thousands of euros worth of gear for 2 years now, it's not what you have, it's what you do with it.
that said, i'm pretty envious of dwb's collection...

I'd recommend venturing into it. It is stressful and commodifies it to a certain degree, but leads to new and exciting things with regards to photography subjects, and makes you better as a photographer in getting you out there and photographing on a more consistent basis, while pushing yourself to get better.

thanks man.

it looks like flickr lowers the resolution a bit on larger pics so that one is splotchy. i dunno where else to host large photos though.

I spy the Pitchfork 500 book on the coffee table.

Bought myself the Canon T1i for christmas, expecting the 50mm/f1.8 as a gift. It's been 10+ years since I used an SLR but I'm picking things back up quickly. I'm also getting blown away by everything that can be done now with digital/computers. Digital ISO adjustments, Photoshop Lightroom. I've been reading the strobist blog and thinking about getting flash/wirelesstrigger/stand/umbrella kit so I can play around with off camera flash stuff.

I'd recommend it. It's kind of a daunting thing in some ways, because it gives photography more of a technical, post-modernist feel to it, especially with regards to finding out how to meter stuff properly. I haven't quite figured off-camera flash photography yet, but I'm working towards it more and more. Currently using a Canon 580 EX II and AB800 with a large octabox. When I'm done with finals, I'll have some more time to play around with said toys.

Taken with a holga, the first two with slide film, cross-processed; the last one with black and white- I think Ilford Delta 100 ISO, lit with natural light and the in-camera flash.
