the camera with kit alone http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CBKJGG/ref ... 4BE6QQT2FM for 410$ is actually kind of a bad deal, i'd say.

this was my first attempt at shooting live bands. can i get some feedback?

the second band were like, 16-17 year olds, i went to this local battle of the bands. they played some pretty shitty metalcore but they're on the right path if thats their thing i guess.

i'll have more up once i've edited them. i'm lazy as fuck when it comes to editing.

i kind of took pictures like you when i was your age, act five. i took pictures of a lot of Things and got pretty decent at it, then i came to WKU to study photojournalism (have since dropped that). took me a semester or more to get in that mind frame but once i did i found that i liked taking pictures of people a lot more than i did just observational things (not that that's what you should try to do or anything). as far as suggestions for getting better or whatever, i can't say go out and Study The Masters because i never did, but you really should dig into the things that interest you. i'd say i was more influenced by movies than other photography when it comes to composition. just find what style or subject matter you like, see what other people are doing, and try to do it better or differently than they do it.

i would use more favorable light in your outdoor shots when the light is hanging low and you have a wider variety of tones (sunrise, late afternoon)

would probably get a longer lens for gig photography. yours kinda look like snapshots.

i mean you probably already know that shit so i dont know what i'm talking about thguoh because i dont know anyhting technical about photography or what i'm doing,

wolferine: right now i'm just taking pictures of whatever events/subjects i happen to find appealing or interesting, i used to go to hs for automotive so i've been to quite a few car shows but i haven't yet found my "niche" i suppose. i've slightly dabbled into painting/drawing, found that i wasn't too good at proper drawing, only graffiti, and gave up to focus on photography, but i plan on getting back into it soon. i don't know, i've always wanted to do something art related, and so far photography has hit me the hardest. here's to hoping i find my niche somewhere in photos.

windfucker: to be honest, i know fuck all about the technical aspect of photography or what i'm doing as well. i've been having some trouble lining up my shots when the light is either too under/overpowering, so i'm gonna try to work on getting my lighting more on point. circular polarizer seems to help in some situations (i'm shooting film). i was also considering a new lens, right now i'm working off the kit lens from the pentax ZX30, any suggestions?

also, the gig pics were taken with my uncle's pentax K20D, i'm not sure which lens he had on there so i can't really comment on that.

ps considering upgrading to a dslr in the near future, something bottom of the barrel should do for now.

act five i say go for it with the course. looks like you have some alright compositional/framing technique and a decent eye. i would say look at other photographers' work but if you go to school you'll do that and you'll be exposed to a lot of stuff. i took beginners and advanced analog photography and got a lot out of it, not that i'm a good or great photographer or anything but i learned a lot. of course it depends on the teacher but yeah, that's the gamble you take i guess.

those band shots aren't very good to be honest. as mentioned they look like point and shoot snapshots. your other shots are quite good, you've got potential. good luck with it
