I just made 3 posts in a row where all I posted was a single photo of King Abdullah II of Jordan. Who else can say that?

They should probably give the movie to someone who actually wants to make it, don't you think?

I would much rather them take a while to make an awesome movie than fast-track it and leave us with another sub-par Star Trek movie. I know you're both* lukewarm on 2009, but that movie is so much goddamn fun.

I dunno, I think that's better than franchise fatigue. It'll be four years between TDK and TDKR. I think it helps keep the excitement level up.

Maybe J. J. Abrams realized that he was the most morally myopic filmmaker since Frank Capra and had to rethink how to do Star Trek.

So is the life of a hipster/emo/punk/goth/ and the many forms insecure gays guise themself as throughout the ages.

Maybe at least this will give everyone time to kinda age into their characters.
Like by the time the movie finally gets made, they'll kinda be at the same point in time that the TOS cast was in S1 or something.
Then again, maybe by the time it's made, they all look like they did in Star Trek V.

The TNG cast aged so terribly compared to the TOS cast
The TOS cast looked pretty good in IV but suddenly all beat in V, but they managed to bounce back for VI by embracing the fact that they were all near retirement. Plus Shatner later grew into his jolly old fat man persona and Takei and Nichols still look really good for their ages
Everyone in TNG besides Patrick Stewart looks like they got dragged through a deep fryer since Nemesis. I think the last time I saw Jonathan Frakes was in the Enterprise finale and he had a puffy, baggy face and looked like he wanted someone to shoot him

Abrams already told us that he wants to make sure that his second Trek film stands on its own.
"I think the most important thing to remember is that it doesn't matter if anyone has seen the first one or not. It doesn't matter what the first one was, in a way. This has to be a movie that stands on its own," he explained.
i'm pretty sure this means abrams has totally forgotten what the first movie was about and possibly even that it was a star trek movie and that it was about people on a spaceship

Attention impatient sequelphiles: Vulture can confirm that J.J. Abrams has finally committed to shooting Star Trek 2. Insiders familiar with the director's plans tell Vulture that pre-production is underway, that the script will be done by month's end and that Abrams will start shooting this winter.
While many assumed he would make the follow-up to his 2009 hit, he would never give a date for the project, or actually say for sure that he would be the one directing. In July, reports elsewhere surfaced that Abrams was “moving towards a commitment” to direct the sequel (which, of course, is Internet for “hasn’t committed yet”) but his delay had pushed a nervous Paramount Pictures to give Trek 2's late June 2012 release date to a G.I. Joe sequel.
Part of the hold-up has been that Alex Kurtzman, who wrote Abrams' first Trek with Roberto “Bob” Orci, has been busy editing and posting Welcome to People, his directing debut at DreamWorks Pictures. We’re told that now that Kurtzman is finished with those duties, he is back in his office and the team is ready to work. Plug in the Starbucks I.V., lads! These new life-forms and new civilizations aren’t going to seek out themselves!
