Great, a Star Trek film about someone being tortured in a room for 2 hours. Fuck you Tarantino.

I'm really lost here. I love Star Trek. I wasn't shitting on Discovery. My question was sincere, it wasn't some attempt at sarcasm and I don't know why it would be interpreted this way. I don't make a habit of dropping into random threads and commenting negatively on things I'm not engaged in. I don't know what schtick farmer is referring to, but it's not mine.

Especially since there's been a lot of speculation re: the Mirror Universe with this series.

I think uni's biggest criticism about this show (the idea of the show, at least) was that he'd prefer a post-Voyager setting rather than pre-TOS, a view that a lot of people in this thread shared.

It sounds like this is actually happening

http://www.indiewire.com/2017/12/star-t ... 201905068/

Quentin Tarantino’s “Star Trek” is developing fast at Paramount. Deadline reported earlier this week that Tarantino had successfully pitched an idea for a new “Trek” film to producer J.J. Abrams and Paramount, and now it has been revealed that both parties have agreed to Tarantino’s request that the movie be rated R.

According to new report from Deadline, Tarantino met “for hours” with writers Mark L. Smith, Lindsey Beer, and Drew Pearce to kick around ideas. One of the three writers will be chosen to craft the screenplay, which Tarantino intends on directing. The frontrunner is reportedly Smith, who has R-rated experience having written “The Revenant.”

I watched episodes 1-4 and enjoyed them. Is there another season or any idea of this show is doing well at all?

This episode ruled mercilessly even though it incorporated the two plot twists I wanted the least

Another unnecessary callback to TOS in my book. I don’t know why they think their market is people who grew up on TOS.

I agree but at the same time it was an awesome episode and they redeemed the campy version of the mirror universe from ds9 and EnterpriseToggle Spoiler

It's also a TOS call back that you don't really need to know to get the episode, so what does it matter?

An alternate universe where everyone is mean just seems like lazy sci fi. I didn’t mind it but it’s probably one of my least favorites.

I had convinced myself the rumors were wrong until the mid season finale. I guess I really just wanted them to be wrong. It would be cool if Tyler gets to stay a main cast member anyway - decides to become his programmed identity. The fact that he killed the doctor isn’t making it look good. And having Burnham in a relationship is probably not a good idea for the show in general.

Enjoyed latest ep. Can't stand Tyler, but I assume that there's no way he survives the season. No going back after what he did here. The romance between Tyler and Michael seems so unnecessary and forced.

Are the mirrors of each character consistently opposite between universes? It sounded like the mirror universe Lorca could be a good person since he's a rebel against the Terran Empire. So could that mean that if the mirror universe Lorca is good then the Lorca we know is bad? Or a different theory I've heard is perhaps the Lorca we've seen this whole season is actually the mirror universe Lorca all along and he's engineered a way back to his universe since it was implied in the previous episode that he purposely steered the ship to jump there. I dunno.
