maybe I'm grasping at straws here and I need to accept that Star Trek is now going to be Just Another Gritty Modern Grump-Fest

Don't forget Insurrection where the admiral wanted to forcibly relocate people. There were a number of TNG eps where the federation was doing bad stuff. It's just that Picard was a paragon of virtue.

I think this could go a second season if Mikey kills Capt Space Hannibal, takes command of the Disco and fulfills her destiny as "that badass that mutinies always".

I liked ep 3 a lot. It definitely felt stilted in the way it introduced you to the crew but it was still p much exactly what i wanted when Fuller's name was first attached.

to be fair sisko assassinated a romulan ambassador and poisoned an entire planet permanently just so the maquis couldn't live on it

I keep meaning to read this Janeway thing but that site is not at all mobile friendly.

The Romulan ambassador was Garak's work.

yeah sisko just faked a communique to draw the romulans into the dominion war, which is pretty fucked up. but it was garak who set the bomb.

Well, they had to have something in there that felt like classic Star Trek.

I'm mildly enjoying this, but I really hate Star Trek having this tone. Especially in 2017 having gritty Star Trek seems especially depressing. I don't mind showing the dark side of the Federation, violating Roddenberry's rules, or even the plot itself, but it just feels wrong having everyone be all antagonistic to each other.

Non-Discovery request:

What were the key TNG episodes / seasons that set up DS9? (Season 5 and early Season 6, maybe?)

I don't mean TBOBW, obviously -- I'm talking primarily about the Bajoran / Cardassian stuff.

is there anything about discovery that isn't a noun that ties it to star trek?

like yeah its got the federation and klingons and shit, but other than that it could not be more tonally different.
