What's the Buzzcocks compilation so I can remember tomorrow, I've never really explored outside of the hits...

I think Buzzcocks have a different reputation in the UK, there songs still get played on adverts/tv and radio in general so they do still hold a 'classic' stature and are always at least in the top 5 mentioned Manchester/Punk bands.

it's always bullshit when people talk about how "different" they are at age, like, 23 compared to 19-year-olds or their 19-year-old selves, but honestly all of the people i know in my general age group from 22-25 still have this very received canonical view of rock music and worship and cover the buzzcocks and bands from that time period constantly, whereas people in, say, my brother's age group who are four or five years younger than that who i meet uniformly just don't give a shit and only listen to danny brown or drake or animal collective or whatever and do not care about what came before.

i wonder if this has to do with how rapidly the ground has shifted in the 2000s from print to blogs, i remember getting a subscription to SPIN in 2002 and reading those years with andy greenwald/klosterman/etc. writing like they were the fucking bible, whereas if you were just getting into music a few years after the media landscape was changing so quickly that, you know, SPIN was in its hot topic phase like ott mentioned and you wouldn't really have that top-down frame of reference.

Reynolds has a lot of good comment on those issues, on the compression of distinction, on an age basis. To the point where the Internet helps create, through memes and trends, a generational "fabric" that's torn about in the space of five years. The Strokes and Interpol are as old now as Nirvana was in 2002. Think seriously about that because those are only the FIRST bands that benefited from the Internet. In 2012, is Odd Future already "over"?

It’s gotten better. I’ve had several long-term relationships, read some Foucault and even had a chance to experiment a bit with kinkier sex.

Revere guy was pretty bad.

The look on Totes face while they were talking about money in the internet music economy and he was silent because he didn't want to monopolize was pretty great.
