i don't know what the fuck they're doing this year. they had a "top 20 best experimental albums of 2017" list a few days that was pretty lazy posted in the normal fashion and then now there's this with no longer list of albums to accompany it or anything, just a video:

Why in the world does she think that algorithms are going to destroy music journalism? That whole take is weird. That's like saying movie theaters are going to kill movie criticism? I mean, I guess if the only reason you read things about music are to find out about new music and stuff like Discover Weekly and curated playlists drive the ENTIRETY of your musical listening then maybe it'd be the case? But that shows a lack of engagement with the sort of stuff that drives people to read music journalism in the first place?

i'm not sure what is the funniest part of that baffler essay. maybe it is the idea that playlists are a big conspiracy by spotify to eschew the album instead of how their users like to listen to music. or perhaps how she's suddenly shocked by advertiser supported content (omg a playlist where you'll only see major label music!) it is probably the last paragraph though where the writer seems to think that massive expansion by a tech company is supposed to mean something (the lease is until 2034 guys!)

Some of the words are also about how indie rock in 2017 is not a space dominated or led by men, so swing and a miss on wanting another Male Musician is Keeping Indie Rock Alive puff piece

Edit: this piece has like a sentence about The National

Uh, The National were mentioned in passing and most of this seems to be about women, poc and other people who'd been marginalized coming to the forefront of what's considered indie rock in 2017, which to me seems like a perfectly fine thing to write? I mean, I think more words are directly about King Krule than about The National and definitely more are written about Waxahatchee, Jay Som and Japanese Breakfast, all of whom are good and reasonable to highlight, I think?

All the PNW indie rock references in this review led me to believe this was going to be a record I would be very into and then I put it on and it sounds like fuckin Copeland or some shit

My Bloody Valentine,Frank Ocean, and Bjork are the headliners for pitchfork festival from what I've been told. Actually the whole lineup is pretty solid .
