Let's talk Aguachile Alley

No clue, to be honest -- since this series is half the size of the ones I collected as a kid, I found myself amazed at the number of big names I got in every pack, but then realized that most of these are probably what pass for "common cards" these days. Guessing that most of the genuinely exciting or in-demand cards are either genuine rookie cards or some of the wilder/rarer varieties.
As a Cardinals fan, I liked getting stuff like the Musial Gold Standard. And my dad and I watched the DVD of the 1960 WS Game 7 last week, so it was fun getting the Mazeroski Walk-Off card, mainly because I know he'd like it. And I guess that's mostly what I find fun about these things in the first place.
Would like to know what the big cards from this series are, though. Guess I should look at eBay.

Other than that, of course.
Saw the words "Skip Schumaker" as I was opening a pack and got really excited for a second. Alas, no.

The 'big' stuff these days are relic (jersey swatches or bat pieces), autographs, and cards that are serial numbered ("55/100", etc.). There's also the short-print variations of certain base cards that are alternate pictures (like the famous Rally Squirrel). In this set they also have the "retired rings" and World Series pin cards which look kinda neat. Base stuff doesn't have any value these days, and most of the inserts are crap too.

Kinda gathered that, which is why these are mostly worthwhile for me in brushing up on players I'm not as familiar with. And I know enough people who have particular favorite players or teams that I can give them stuff to brighten their day. My uncle can have all three of my Starlin Castro cards for all I care.

These look great:
Those are actual things embedded in the cards, but probably nothing historically significant.

I feel silly asking this for a variety of reasons, but if I wanted to throw this base set (or any old set I still have tucked away) into a binder, what's the recommended method these days? Just good-quality 9-card pages only, or in penny sleeves first? (Do normal old penny sleeves even fit comfortably in 9-card pages? I have no clue.)

I've found that penny sleeves vary in width so some fit snugly into 9 pocket pages while others are far too wide. For base sets & inserts though I don't bother with sleeves, theres too many cards for sleeves. A good quality 9 pocket page, like Ultra Pro pages, will be more than enough to protect regular cards.
THIS IMPACT WILL CONTROL ALL MARGINS

For pages I recommend the Ultra Pro Platinum Series. They're sturdy and heavy-duty enough that the cards don't slip out accidentally, unlike the flimsier stuff.

bought a jumbo pack of the new 2012 topps'
nothing great, but a few hits: Adam Jones mini, Jeter golden greats, Matt Kemp golden moments and base card gold refractor, Jason Kipnis gold futures
base card wise, Jeter and Hanley Ramirez were the only stars, Lohse was the only Cards card. also got Brandon Belt's (what up Marigold!)

I liked the '10 Topps design, they'd just gotten exlusive mlb license, so the team names were huge on the card.

Since deciding to go all in on 2012 Topps, I've pulled Posey and Beckham relics, but the thing that makes me happiest is my Carp Walmart parallel.

Haha of course. It's the one team I am sorely lacking stuff in. It's alright, I can get em pretty cheap on eBay.

So my expired redemption of a Freddy Sanchez Triple Threads auto/game-used came back as a 2010 Ivan Nova Chrome rookie auto. I feel like I made out pretty well on value but at the same time I feel ripped off that it's not a /99, a game-used, or a Giant like the Sanchez was supposed to be. Am I looking a gift horse in the mouth?

Ugh, Freddy Sanchez and his stripper gyrating/snake wiggle moves before every pitch. I'd think now would be the time to sell high on the Nova.
